Save the Date to Make a Difference - Dining Out For Life® hosted by Subaru® 4/24/14

December 1st marks the 25th observance of World AIDS Day. This year’s theme is fittingly “Shared Responsibility: Strengthening results for an AIDS-free generation.”  More than 1.1 million people are infected with HIV in the United States and 20% more may be infected without knowing it. An interactive map details reported diagnoses across the country according to race, economics, gender and age.  STD testing, prevention and education is key in the fight against this epidemic.
On Thursday, April 24, 2014, you can help in the fight against AIDS by joining in Dining Out For Life hosted by Subaru® held in 58 cities across North America.  Some 23 years ago, a volunteer at ActionAIDS Philadelphia created the concept for a fundraiser, which is magnificent in its simplicity: Dine Out, Fight AIDS. Now more than 3,000 restaurants donate a generous percentage of the day’s proceeds to support service providers in their region to fund care, prevention, education, testing, counseling and other essential HIV/AIDS services. An estimated $4 million will be raised in just one day of dining.  As Subaru CMO Dean Evans notes: “2014 marks the seventh year that Subaru has played host to Dining Out For Life. We couldn't be prouder to support this worthy event and to help the regional organizations that provide crucial services to so many people affected by HIV/AIDS”.
Cities participating on April 24th include Albany, Asheville, Baton Rouge, Birmingham/Mobile, Charleston, Charlottesville, Chicago, Cincinnati, Clearwater (Tampa Bay), Columbia, Denver-Boulder, El Paso, Ferndale (Detroit), Fort Collins, Colo., Ft. Lauderdale, Grand Junction, Grand Rapids, Hawthorne (Hudson Valley), Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kalamazoo, Kamloops (Canada), Lake Charles, Memphis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New Haven, Norfolk, Palm Springs, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Ore., Providence, Raleigh, Reno, San Diego, San Jose, Seattle, St. Louis, Tacoma, Tulsa, Victoria (Canada) and Washington, DC.
Four charitable celebrities are active spokespeople for this fundraiser, including designer Mondo Guerra, winner of Project Runway All-StarsTed Allen, host of Food Network’s popular show Chopped, actor Pam Grier (Foxy Brown, Jackie Brown) and chef Daisy Martinez from Food Network’s ¡Viva Daisy!
