Cunard's Queen Elizabeth is at a shipyard in Germany this week undergoing a makeover that includes the addition of its first cabins for single travelers.
The multimillion upgrade of the 2,068-passenger vessel also is bringing refurbishments to existing cabins and the improvement of restaurant facilities.
Taking place at the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, the overhaul is bringing nine single cabins in all. They're being carved out of space on Deck 2 that previously was part of the vessel's casino. Eight of the single cabins will have an ocean view; one will be a windowless "inside" cabin.
Refurbishments to Queen Elizabeth's informal Lido eatery will include changes to buffet lines. The overhaul will bring new carpets and large flat-screen TVs to passenger cabins.
Other changes will include the addition of sun awnings in the open area near the Lido pool at the stern of Deck 9 and on both sides of the Grills Upper Terrace area near the top of the ship.
This is the first overhaul of the Queen Elizabeth in dry dock since its debut in 2010.
