Travelore News: Austrian Airlines Initiates Vienna To Newark Route

·         Airline offering five weekly flights
·         Service complements existing daily service to JFK

Today, Austrian Airlines launched a new route to the U.S. when Flight OS 089 departed Vienna at 10:15 a.m. local time. The Boeing 767 is scheduled to land at Newark Liberty International Airport at 1:35 p.m. local time, where the aircraft will be greeted by a celebratory water arch before taxiing to Terminal B. The return flight, OS 90, is scheduled to depart Newark at 5:55 p.m. and arrive in Vienna at 8:35 a.m. tomorrow. Thomas Scharfenberger, Lufthansa’s Northeastern USA Regional Director of Sales, Newark Airport General Manager Rich Heslin, as well as Georg Heindl, the Austrian Consul General, will offer remarks at today’s arrival ceremony.

Austrian Airlines will operate the new service five times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With an aircraft configuration of 36 Business Class and 178 Economy Class seats, the flights complement the airline’s established daily route from Vienna to John F. Kennedy International Airport. Similar to the existing service to Vienna, passengers on the new Vienna-Newark service will be able to enjoy a plethora of services offered in order to make their flight as comfortable as possible. Included among these services is an on-board chef that will prepare fresh meals for premium passengers.

Austrian Airlines made the decision to increase its North American flight offers in 2013 with the announcement of the new Vienna-Newark service, as well as increased service to existing routes. “Our flights are very popular, which is why we are increasing their frequency,” said Karsten Benz, CCO of Austrian Airlines. “We are growing on long-haul routes, strengthening our flight service to the U.S. and expect more than 100,000 additional passengers in 2014.”

“I congratulate Austrian Airlines on the opening of a second regular flight from Vienna to the New York area. Economic ties between Austria and the US are continuously growing in strength and so it is significant and timely that, with the Newark flight, a new artery of exchange is established,” said Georg Heindl, Austrian Consul General

At Newark Liberty, Austrian’s premium passengers have access to the new Lufthansa lounge, which features a Senator Lounge and Business Lounge encompassing nearly 4,000 square feet. Amenities include a quiet zone, charging station, work area and media center with televisions and periodicals in a variety of languages. The bistro area offers hot and cold selections from FLIK, a New York-based caterer.
