Outdoor Deck W Hotel Philadelphia |
2019 was an epic year for hotel openings in Philadelphia and the surrounding region.
Among the properties that welcomed visitors for the first time were the Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia in the Comcast Technology Center, the riverside Ghost Light Inn in New Hope, Center City’s swank, art-filled Fitler Club on the Schuylkill River and the rustic-chic boutique operation and The Queen in Queen Village, to name a few.
Now, in 2020, the city and region are looking forward to adding more than 1,800 new hotel rooms.
The Market East corridor welcomes Canopy by Hilton; Philly’s first W and Element hotels — the first dual brand for the hotels, anywhere — debuts in the center of Center City; New Hope receives a luxurious new River House at Odette’s; and the Main Line gets a rustic-chic extended-stay property on the Schuylkill in the Residence Inn by Marriott Philadelphia/Bala Cynwyd.
Also planning their 2020 debuts: Guild House Hotel, a National Historic Landmark that’s also a landmark in Philadelphia women’s history, and Live! Hotel & Casino, featuring gaming and dining near the sports complexes of South Philadelphia.
Here’s a look at hotels opening in Philadelphia and The Countryside in 2020.

HOTELS IN PHILADELPHIA
Canopy by Hilton Philadelphia Center City
An addition to Hilton’s Luxury and Lifestyle brand portfolio comes to the fast-developing Market East/Midtown Village neighborhoods. The boutique-style Canopy will thoughtfully adapt the 1896 Beaux Arts Stephen Girard Building to modern tastes.
Element Hotel Philadelphia
Element’s largest global property opens in the very center of Center City, next door to its dual-branded property, the W Hotel Philadelphia. Element guests can enjoy a kitchen in every guest room or suite, a signature Westin Heavenly® bed, onsite Italian restaurant Dolce, and both complimentary breakfast each morning and glass of wine or beer each evening.
Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia
This 13-story new construction by Philadelphia-based DAS Architects near Rittenhouse Square promises a large, rustic modern hotel. Onsite underground parking will complement the hotel’s proximity to Rittenhouse Row’s many shops, restaurants, boutiques, galleries and bars.
W Philadelphia
Less than one block from iconic City Hall, this skyscraper hotel will bring modern luxury with a stylish dose of Philly vibrancy and artistry. Among the W’s amenities, including 22 meeting rooms, the FIT gym, the Living Room cocktail lounge and bar terrace, is a year-round heated pool — outdoor pool, that is.
Guild House Hotel
In historic Washington Square West, this National Historic Landmark building once housed the New Century Guild — a hotel, library and food hall for unaccompanied working women visiting Philadelphia for 111 years. (At the time, women were prohibited from entering such establishments without a male chaperone.) In its new iteration, the invisible service hotel will maintain founder Eliza Turner’s name above the front door and name each of its dozen rooms for a Guild member, while transforming the interior to accommodate modern travelers’ desires for multi-night stays in rooms and suites.
Live! Hotel & Casino Philadelphia
This long-awaited complex will bring Philadelphia its second casino within city limits, near South Philadelphia’s trio of sports arenas. The $700 million, 5 million square-foot hotel and casino will have 2,200 slots and electronic table games, more than 150 live-action table games, a Sportsbook, a 12-story hotel, venues for live entertainment, and dining.
HOTELS IN PHILADELPHIA’S COUNTRYSIDE
River House at Odette’s
On the site of famed Bucks County cabaret Chez Odette, a luxury hotel will offer great views of both the Delaware River and Lambertville landscape. A lively piano bar and vintage appointments will revive the spirit of its namesake. Traditional, seated dining (indoor and outdoor) and exceedingly comfortable guest rooms will appeal to modern guests. There are also plans for a private rooftop bar.
Element by Westin Valley Forge
This all-suites property brings Montgomery County its first Westin. Each spacious room comes with its own kitchenette.
Residence Inn by Marriott Philadelphia/Bala Cynwyd
The Main Line’s historic Pencoyd Iron Works, established in 1852, becomes a riverside extended-stay hotel featuring a recreational trail, 7th-floor terrace with a restaurant and bar, saltwater pool, patio with grill and fire pit, electric car charging, bikes for guests and event and conference spaces.
