Celebrating with Fellow Luther Cities
In 2017, Germany will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Dresden, too, will be celebrating, underlining the close connection between the city and Luther. In 1516 and 1517 Martin Luther preached to the Saxon court in the Royal Palace (Residenzschloss). On display there: his drinking goblet and signet ring. Martin Luther's handwritten first lecture as a professor in Wittenberg, on display at the Dresden Book Museum, is part of the UNESCO Immaterial World Heritage list.

Famous Collections & Exhibitions
With more than 50 museums and galleries, Dresden is one of the most important museum cities in Germany and Europe - thanks to the Saxon prince elector’s passion for collecting. For example, the Zwinger, originally built for a Royal wedding in 1719, contains not only the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments and the Porcelain Collection, but also the Old Masters Picture Gallery including Raphael's “Sistine Madonna” and a vast Cranach and Rembrandt collection. In February 2016, the eastern wing was re-opened following its restoration.

Sounds Different – Alternative Events
Dresden's cultural landscape is enhanced bythe young art scene: a sphere which is celebrated at various festivals this year featuring contemporary music, street art and computer-assisted art. Artists work closely with audiences to redefine the term “art” and, most importantly, enrich Dresden as a musical setting with experimental sounds and new kinds of music. Most popular is the creative street festival BRN in the vibrant Dresden Neustadt area.
