Need a new blender? Go to Amazon.com. Need to buy gifts for Christmas? Go to Amazon.com. Looking for a book that hasn't even come out yet? Yep, go to Amazon.com. And soon, you can go to Amazon.com to book your hotel room.
Should competitors be worried? We think so. This retail giant is working to launch Amazon Travel early next year, starting with some independent hotels in Seattle, Washington; Los Angeles, California; and New York, New York.
The thing about Amazon.com is you can pretty much find anything you are looking for, and you can read consumer reviews at the same time, along with a bunch of other nifty “amenities” like free shipping, and buying new and used items. And their policy for sellers makes buying a reassuring experience, because if you are not satisfied, Amazon.com will go to bat for you.
Slipping into the niche market of boutique and independent hotels, Amazon.com is offering these establishments the opportunity to be seen by many, while at the same time receiving a nice 15 percent commission for prepaid bookings.
Will flights and other travel goodies be on the horizon for Amazon.com. Time will tell, but if we had to hedge a guess, we’d say, yes – just give it time.
