Travelore News: Munich Airport Voted Best In Europe

Munich Airport voted best in Europe

MUNICH, Germany - Munich Airport scored a major success in the 2015 World Airport Awards: As in the previous year, the Bavarian hub was voted Europe's best airport, and also maintained its outstanding number three position in the global rankings. By taking home this prize yet again, Munich Airport has now won the "European airport championship" in eight of the past 10 years. And in its own category, namely airports with 30 to 40 million passengers per year, Munich is actually number one in the world.
The Munich Airport Hilton (the Kempinski until the end of 2014) also came in for high praise: Like the airport, the upscale hotel situated right next to the terminals was voted number one in Europe and number three worldwide. Other excellent results were achieved by the airport's VIP facilities (#2), the quality of the bars and restaurants (#4) and in the category "terminal comfort and leisure amenities" (#3). The airport staff were also singled out for special recognition: the MUC team garnered an outstanding number two spot among the European competition.
The latest passenger survey by the London-based aviation research institute Skytrax collected responses from more than 13 million travelers from 112 countries. The award was presented to Munich Airport CEO Dr. Michael Kerkloh at a special ceremony on the occasion of the Passenger Terminal EXPO 2015 in Paris. "We're very proud of our airport. This award belongs above all to the over 32,000 employees of the airport. It is thanks to their fantastic commitment that our airport stands in such high esteem among passengers all over the world," said airport CEO Kerkloh at the awards ceremony.
The chairman of the airport's Supervisory Board, the Bavarian finance minister Dr. Markus Söder, also welcomed the title: This is a huge honor for Bavaria's gateway to the world. For many passengers from all parts of the globe, Munich Airport is what they see first in Bavaria. This good impression reflects on our entire state."
For the World Airport Awards, the surveyed passengers rated 550 international airports and a large number of airlines, using such key performance indicators as check-in and service quality, friendliness and competence of airport staff, shopping and leisure amenities and ease of transit between flights.
