This Restaurant Has Just Been Voted Best Restaurant In The World

Tripadvisor revealed their annual ranking of the world’s best restaurants, the Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Restaurants. For this 2024 edition, the top spot went to the famous French establishment Maison Pic. A prestigious title for this gastronomic institution, led by chef Anne-Sophie Pic, which has won over critics and gourmets from all over the world over the years.

With a remarkable score of 5/5 out of 3,142 reviews, Maison Pic is top of the list in the fine dining category. This is a great honour for Anne-Sophie Pic, who expressed her delight in a press release: “I dedicate this award to our customers, whose glowing reviews have enabled us to achieve this top position. It also reflects the hard work and perseverance of all my teams in the kitchen, the pastry station, the dining room and the sommeliers, helping us to offer our guests an exceptional experience.”

This first place in the Tripadvisor rankings is not just a win for Maison Pic, but also for French gastronomy as a whole. Three other French establishments feature in the world’s top 10: La Maison Medard based in Boulleret, La Tour d’Argent in the heart of Paris and the Cuisine d’Arrivage, a Leclère restaurant located in Montpellier.

La Maison Pic, a family business at the top

Based in Valence in the Drôme department, Maison Pic is a family business. Anne-Sophie Pic is the third generation of Michelin-starred chefs to take the wheel. Following her brother Alain’s tenure, she took over in the 1990s after the death of her father, Jacques Pic. Far from merely inheriting a done deal, Anne-Sophie succeeded in putting forth her own style, denoted by a constant search for new harmonies of taste.

Under her leadership, the restaurant was awarded its third Michelin star in 2007. Since then, Anne-Sophie Pic has kept on perfecting her craft. Each dish is designed as a sensory experience in which the Michelin-starred chef plays with your olfactory senses. Recently, she was asked to come up with a new lobster-based dish for King Charles III during his visit to Versailles.

A full menu, reflecting boundless creativity

At Maison Pic, the menu is an ode to nature. You are invited on a gustatory journey with poetically-named dishes with poetic names such as L’écume glisse sur la coquille (Seaspray on the Shell) or Murmure d’automne (Whispers of Autumn). Plants are at the heart of Anne-Sophie Pic’s approach, and she likes to combine local produce with influences from far-off lands, especially Japan, a land for which she feels a particular fondness. Anne-Sophie Pic owes her respect for ingredients and the art of sublimating this produce to regular meetings she has with producers.

A refined setting

The gastronomic experience at Maison Pic goes beyond the table. The venue itself, located in a charming hotel, plays a key role in guest satisfaction. You can see three distinct, colour-coded atmospheres. The restaurant’s spacious lounges have been designed to create a cosy feel. In addition to the decor, Anne-Sophie Pic has made it a point of pride to give customers a warm welcome.
