The lines between traditional luxury hospitality and home-sharing have just blurred significantly. In a major move for the travel rewards industry, American Express and Airbnb have officially launched an exclusive partnership, integrating over 1 million Airbnb listings directly into the Amex Travel booking platform.
Starting today, October 22, 2026, eligible U.S. Amex Card Members can browse and book Airbnb homes through AmexTravel.com and the Amex Travel app. This integration offers a much-needed alternative for families, groups, or long-stay travelers who require more space and amenities than a standard hotel room, all while keeping their bookings within the American Express ecosystem.
How the Booking Process Works
To access the new inventory, Card Members must first link their American Express online account with their existing Airbnb account (the names on both accounts must match). From there, you can search destinations and travel dates under the "Homes" tab on Amex Travel. While the initial booking and payment process happens through American Express, AmexTravel.com, guests will manage their actual stay—including host communication and modifications—directly through the Airbnb platform.
Earning Points on Vacation Rentals
One of the biggest pain points for points-obsessed travelers has been the inability to earn luxury multipliers on vacation rentals. This partnership solves that. Travelers booking eligible prepaid Airbnb stays through Amex Travel will earn elevated Membership Rewards points:
- Platinum and Business Platinum Card® Members will earn a massive 5X Membership Rewards points on their bookings.
- Consumer Classic Green Card Members will continue to earn 3X points.
- All other eligible Membership Rewards-enrolled cards will earn 2X points.
Massive Platinum Card Perks and Credit Tweaks
This partnership also brings significant shifts for American Express Platinum Card holders. The card's existing $600 annual Lodging Credit (which provides up to $300 in statement credits semi-annually) can now be applied to Airbnb Luxe bookings of two nights or more made through Amex Travel online. Airbnb Luxe properties are high-end, meticulously vetted luxury homes.
However, this comes with a broader policy tweak. Starting January 1, 2027, all lodging credits across the Platinum portfolio—including Fine Hotels + Resorts—will require a minimum two-night stay. If you want to use a credit for a one-night luxury hotel stay, you must do so before the end of 2026.
To sweeten the deal, Amex is introducing a brand-new perk: the $250 Airbnb Experiences Credit. Once a Platinum Card Member books a qualifying Airbnb Luxe stay, they unlock up to $250 in statement credits that can be used toward eligible Airbnb Experiences (like private tours, culinary classes, or guided excursions) purchased directly with Airbnb through the remainder of the calendar year.
This partnership is a massive win for modern luxury travelers, proving that high-end travel is no longer confined to traditional five-star hotels.
