World Cruises once were a hallmark of the ultimate traveler. Passengers would board a ship, typically in January, with several steamer trunks in tow and travel for several months, returning to their home port just in time for summer.
Today, world cruises are not quite as sophisticated. They depart from many different ports, cruise for varying lengths of time and cater to people from all walks and life and professions. Suitcases are substituted for steamer trunks (not quite as much formal wear). All are broken up into shorter segments so many only sail a portion of the overall itinerary.
Still, there are those who do book the whole trip. World cruisers tend to be retired, with enough income to afford months at sea and with an adventurous spirit. Most will have years of cruising experience behind them.
World cruises certainly are popular, perhaps because they visit many unusual ports. “Our world cruise sold out in just four hours two years ago and last year in four days,” boasts Scott Knutson, vice president of Costa Cruises.” This year there is still limited availability for one of the most reasonably priced world cruises ever.
World Cruises offer genuine immersion in the regions they visit, featuring unique cultural heritage, cuisine, customs and language generally only seen (and appreciated) by the most discerning travelers. Even the most seasoned travelers will see the world with new eyes thanks to the opportunity for unparalleled exploration of the regions visited through these cruises.
Now is the time to book a World Cruise. There is still time to book a World Cruise for 2015 (many categories are sold out); however, the window of opportunity is closing as cabins usually fill by summer for the next year’s voyages.
