Airlines Ranked By How Often They Lose Your Bags

Best: Virgin. Worst: the airline formerly known as American Eagle.







Airline mishandle your baggage this year? You weren't alone.
More than 1.6 million pieces of luggage were lost, damaged, delayed or riffled through during the first nine months of 2014, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Carriers with the worst record for mishandled baggage this year were Envoy Air, formerly known as American Eagle, at 8.82 complaints per 1,000 passengers  and ExpressJet Airlines with 5.82 complaints per 1,000, according to the DOT’s Air Travel Consumer Report.  
The best: Virgin America (with 0.97 complaints per 1,000 passengers) and Frontier Airlines (1.78 per 1,000).
The largest carriers operating out of Philadelphia International Airport placed in the middle of the pack. The national average was 3.71 per 1,000 passengers.  USAirways, which has its largest international hub at PHL, took 3.65 complaints per 1,000. Southwest, USAirways’ largest competitor, recorded 4.31 complaints per thousand.
