A subtle update has appeared at one of Walt Disney World Resort‘s most patriotic destinations, and the timing couldn’t be more fitting. Let’s take a look at the latest news out of the American Adventure World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT.
On May 12, WDWNT reported that a brand-new sign for Voices of Liberty had been installed at the entrance to the American Adventure World Showcase Pavilion. The sign, mounted in a white outdoor frame on the left side of the main building’s entrance, features an image of the Voices of Liberty singers, positioned alongside the Liberty Bell and the original American flag.
The new display includes showtime magnets that Disney cast members can add or remove depending on the day’s schedule, giving guests real-time information about when they can catch a performance. The sign describes the group as offering “A Capella Performances Featuring Music from the American Songbook.”
For those unfamiliar, Voices of Liberty is an a capella ensemble that performs multiple times daily inside the rotunda of the American Adventure’s main building.
What the Sign Replaced
The white frame, now dedicated to Voices of Liberty, previously advertised the American Adventure theatrical show — the pavilion’s flagship attraction, which sends guests on a guided tour through United States history narrated by audio-animatronic figures of Ben Franklin and Mark Twain. That show still has its own advertisement on the right side of the main entrance, so both experiences are now represented at the building’s exterior, each with its own dedicated display.
More America-Themed Celebrations at EPCOT This Summer
The Voices of Liberty signage update arrives as EPCOT gears up for a summer centered on American pride. Walt Disney World Resort is preparing to mark the United States’ 250th birthday with the debut of an updated Soarin’ Across America attraction, alongside the extended run of the “Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors” exhibit by former President George W. Bush.

Travelore News: Disney Bans More Items, Including Cameras, From Theme Parks
Disney has added to the list of items banned from its theme parks.
Credit: Disney
All theme parks are dictated by rules intended to keep both guests and employees safe and comfortable. Disney is no exception, with all guests expected to follow a code of conduct that, among other rules, prohibits disrespectful or violent behavior towards parkgoers and cast members alike.
Some Disney parks boast more unique rules than others. For example, at Tokyo Disney Resort, guests are prohibited from bringing their own food into the parks. The same was previously true at Shanghai Disneyland.
While select items are banned at all Disney parks – weapons are, for obvious reasons, a no-go no matter which park you visit – some resorts also restrict more items than others.
At Disneyland Paris, this list of banned items just expanded.
Effective immediately, guests can no longer bring professional cameras, lenses over 135 mm, tripods or extension accessories over 20 cm, lighting equipment, microphones, drones, or any material that could disrupt the experience, compromise safety, or be used for commercial or journalistic filming (via DLP Report).
📸 Disneyland Paris has updated its list of forbidden Audio/Video equipment guests can bring in the parks. The list of prohibited equipment now includes professional cameras, lenses over 135 mm, tripods or extension accessories over 20 cm, lighting equipment, microphones, drones, and any material that could disrupt the experience, compromise safety, or be used for commercial or journalistic filming.
These join an already pretty lengthy list of prohibited items, including:
Illicit substances
Hazardous substances
Alcoholic beverages
Glass bottles
Offensive weapons
Defensive weapons
Objects that appear to be weapons
Toy guns
Toy blasters
Squirt guns
Vuvuzelas
Loud speakers
Horns
Drones
Remote control toys
Guests who insist upon bringing these items to the parks risk rejection at the security checkpoint. Anyone who smuggles items into the parks may also face removal – or, even worse, a ban from Disney property.
Fans aren’t overly impressed by the changes.
“Uhm.. excuse me?? What kind of bs…” wrote one X, formerly known as Twitter, user. “What classifies as a “professional camera” or lighting equipment? And as if they’re gonna check every lens if it’s 135mm or more… Like what? And why? Why no [mics]??”
Another said: “You’re somewhat creative? They don’t want your business anymore.”
Meanwhile, one fan joked, “It’s because Cascade of Lights is so awful that they want to make sure no one has images of it,” referring to the resort’s upcoming new nighttime spectacular.
As if the amount of bad news in a month couldn’t get any worse:
-The new flat AI map
-Tales of Magic losing its drones
-Now all cameras other than phones are forbidden?
Disney Resort Prepares for Disney Adventure World
These rule changes come weeks before the debut of Disney Adventure World. The park will replace Walt Disney Studios Park as of March 29, with the likes of World of Frozen, Raiponce Tangled Spin, Adventure Bay (where guests can watch the aforementioned Cascade of Lights), and The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge – which features redesigned looks for multiple Disney princesses – rejuvenating a theme park long considered the worst of Disney’s global lineup.
Previews start soon for the new-and-improved park, with influencers already flying into Paris to prepare for a first look. Several previews are also available to Annual Passholders, with these booking out well in advance.

Travelore News: Disney Closes Historic Monorail System, Effective March 30
As of Monday, March 30, and the original Disneyland Resort Monorail system is now closed. The Southern California Disney destination first announced its plans to indefinitely close the tram system in February and still hasn’t confirmed a reopening date.
Credit: Disney
The Disneyland Monorail first opened in June 1959. Walt Disney, who had a lifelong obsession with trains, envisioned the tram system as the public transportation of the future. Although that never materialized, the Monorail system became a staple of Disney parks around the world, including Walt Disney World Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort.
The original Monorail system at Disneyland Resort has been updated several times throughout the years, most notably for the grand opening of Disney California Adventure Park in 2001. The highway in the sky now transports guests 2.5 miles to and from a station in the Downtown Disney District into Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park.
Before officially announcing the Monorail refurbishment in February, Disneyland Resort filed construction permits for the historic transportation system. Those documents indicate that Disney plans to update electrical systems and reinforce support pillars during the refurbishment period, so Disney Park guests may not notice changes to the 66-year-old transportation system when it reopens.
Still, Disneyland Resort hasn’t publicly confirmed any of its plans for the Monorail, nor has it shared a reopening date for the transportation system. Presumably, the Tomorrowland entrance to Disneyland Park is also closed, as the Monorail is the only way to access that entry point into the original Southern California Disney park.
Disneyland Resort’s website urges guests to “check back” for “updates” on the refurbishment.

Disney World Prepares For Complete Overhaul To Cinderella Castle
Something is shifting across Walt Disney World, and you can feel it even before you know what’s changing. Construction walls pop up overnight, long-standing attractions quietly close, and new experiences seem to be forming in every corner of the resort. Guests can tell Disney is in the middle of a massive refresh, even if not every update has been officially announced.
Credit: Kaleb Tapp, Unsplash
With so much movement happening all at once, attention is starting to settle on one place in particular—Cinderella Castle. A new development has pushed eyes toward Magic Kingdom’s most iconic structure, though Disney isn’t giving away the details just yet.
Before diving into what’s happening with the castle, it’s essential to look at how much the rest of Disney World is shifting. Entire lands are being built or reimagined, like the long-awaited Villains Land at Magic Kingdom and Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Both expansions show Disney stepping into bolder themes and fresh storytelling directions, giving fans entirely new corners of the resort to explore.
These large-scale additions indicate Disney’s commitment to reshaping the parks from the ground up, not just polishing what already exists. With these kinds of projects already in progress, it makes perfect sense that the resort’s centerpiece may be preparing for its own evolution as well.
At the same time, Disney is reimagining attractions and entertainment experiences across the resort. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s upcoming Muppets retheme stands out as one of the boldest moves, taking a classic thrill ride and infusing it with the Muppets’ chaotic humor and personality. Disney doesn’t make changes this dramatic unless it’s planning for a new creative direction, and that decision alone says a lot.
Entertainment changes are also reshaping the guest experience, with Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After adding flair to nighttime offerings and the Disney Starlight Parade injecting vibrant new energy into Magic Kingdom. With updates hitting the parks from multiple angles, the idea of a castle transformation feels not just possible, but almost expected.
Cinderella Castle is more than an icon—it’s the emotional anchor of Walt Disney World. Guests treat it as a symbol of their entire vacation, the place where the magic officially begins the moment they catch a glimpse of it from Main Street.
Because of that emotional weight, any sign of change involving the castle always sparks conversation. Recent movement around the park, combined with Disney’s broader wave of updates, has fans wondering whether the castle could be next. Now, thanks to a new filing, that question feels more relevant than ever.
As of November 10, 2025, a newly filed permit lists work for Cinderella Castle with the description: “labor, material, and/or electrical for construction.” Disney frequently uses vague language in permits to avoid revealing exact plans too early, but this particular classification stands out.
It signals an actual construction project—something that goes beyond simple maintenance or touch-ups. When Disney lists materials, electrical work, and labor together, it typically indicates that crews will physically modify or upgrade part of an attraction or structure. With the castle involved, even a subtle hint carries major implications.
While Disney hasn’t shared details, a permit like this typically points to one or more of the following:
Structural reinforcement or interior work
Lighting or projection upgrades
Electrical improvements tied to nighttime shows
New technology installations
Cosmetic changes or exterior restoration
Preparatory work for a larger future project
Several months back, Disney announced plans to eventually repaint Cinderella Castle, bringing back more of its original character and classic tones. Fans immediately expressed excitement, hoping to see the softer, more traditional look return after the castle’s recent anniversary color scheme.
What Disney didn’t reveal, however, was when the repainting would begin or how extensive the restoration would be. Since then, guests have been waiting for the first sign that the project has officially started. Now, this new permit has reopened those conversations and sparked fresh optimism among longtime visitors.
The castle’s original cool-toned palette is deeply nostalgic for generations of Disney World guests. It’s the version featured in countless family photos, commercials, and memories, giving it a timeless quality that fans have always connected with.
The anniversary pink-and-blue makeover was a fun celebratory moment, but many feel it’s time for the castle to return to its classic elegance. If this permit marks the beginning of that restoration, it could be the most exciting update the park has seen in years. With the resort undergoing huge transformations, the timing feels almost too perfect.
With Disney World undergoing rapid transformation, Cinderella Castle appears to be the next significant piece of the puzzle. Whether the new permit signals a repaint, latest technology, structural improvements, or a combination of changes, something meaningful is clearly underway.
Disney may keep quiet for now, but the clues suggest a fundamental shift is happening behind the scenes. Whatever emerges, the castle’s next transformation will undoubtedly shape the future of Magic Kingdom. And as this new chapter unfolds, fans will be watching closely—eager to see what the heart of Disney World will look like next.

Disney World Is Opening 3 New Locations In 2026. Here’s The Full List
We’re seeing quite a few ride changes in 2026 at Disney World! Over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is getting a Muppets retheme, Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is finally reopening after a year-plus closure with new effects and an updated track, and big things are happening at EPCOT, including new faces coming to the animatronics of Frozen Ever After and Soarin’ getting an “Across America” update during the country’s 250th anniversary celebration. However, we’ll also be seeing multiple new locations pop up over the theme park resort.
©Disney
Disney has confirmed a new theme park area coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and a new bar opening at a popular hotel, and has hinted at a new entertainment experience beginning work soon in Disney Springs. Without further ado, let’s check out these additions.
Animation Courtyard at Hollywood Studios permanently closed on September 25, 2025, and is being transformed into the Magic of Disney Animation! Part of the larger “Walt Disney Studios Lot” reimagining, this new offering will open in 2026 as a “special nod to the legendary Walt Disney Studios Lot” in Burbank, California (including Mickey’s famous Sorcerer Hat). Here, Disney Animation characters will “leap off the screen and into our world.”
©Disney
The new land will keep Animation Courtyard’s The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents, while introducing brand-new experiences inspired by beloved Disney characters and the “Once Upon a Studio” short film. We’re getting updated meet-and-greets, new drawing classes, and interactive experiences for guests of all ages, such as play zones like a “Drawn to Wonderland” garden/playground setting. During the transformation, Star Wars Launch Bay and Disney Jr. Play and Dance permanently closed, although “a fresh Disney Jr. show” has been teased.
Over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a new lobby bar is currently being installed.
Construction as of October 9th, 2025
Although it’s opening in 2025 (November 10th, to be exact), The Perch will still be fresh in 2026. This birdcage bar (inspired by a birdcage that was once found in the lobby) features beautiful woodwork, herringbone tile, and custom stained glass, all while serving up champagne, wine, beer, and two signature cocktails (the Sunshine State Rum Sazerac and the Floridian 75). A non-alcoholic option is also available (the Blueberry and Basil Iced Tea is a blend of lemon, blueberry, and basil tea).
While not confirmed to open in 2026, Disney has already begun hiring for Level99 in Disney Springs, and construction is underway, so we’ve begun speculating.
Construction walls
This space will be an interactive, social entertainment experience that presents “real-world, challenge-based, social entertainment” for adults. Expect to see physical and mental challenges set in artistic environments, such as 60 challenge rooms and duels in a futuristic arcade setting. The largest location of this chain, the Disney Springs Level99 will be 45,000 square feet in a two-story space and will feature dining with a chef-crafted menu — including LEVEL99’s award-winning Detroit-style pizza

Disney Pouring $60 Billion Into Theme Parks, Cruises Over The Next 10 Years
The Walt Disney Co. is planning to invest approximately $60 billion into its theme parks and cruise lines over the next decade, as the company looks to continue growing one of its more successful business segments.
The company said in a regulatory filing on Tuesday that the planned investment is nearly double what it spent in the prior 10-year period.
The Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment continues to do well for the company, with revenue rising 13% in its fiscal third quarter. That’s helped to offset the struggles in its Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution unit, which saw revenue dip 1% in the period.
Disney is confident in its plans, saying in a prepared statement that it’s seen growth following previous periods of significant investment, which included the additions of Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World, Avengers Campus at California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris.
It’s also opening new Frozen-themed lands at its Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo properties, along with a Zootopia-themed land in Shanghai. And during a presentation at its Destination D23 event earlier this month, Disney made several parks announcements, including plans to create a new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge in Magic Kingdom and the reimagining of the Test Track ride at Epcot.
Disney’s theme parks have been a top priority for Bob Iger since he returned in November to take over the CEO post from Bob Chapek.
The Burbank, California-based company’s theme parks are widely viewed by industry experts as a critical component of its business. To that end, Iger has been prioritizing reconnecting with the Disney theme park die-hards and restoring their faith in the brand. Shortly after his return, changes rolled out at U.S. parks.
While the company didn’t provide details on any specific plans it has for the $60 billion investment, it did say that “there is a deep well of stories” that haven’t been fully explored at its theme parks yet.
Disney said that it has significant room to expand its theme parks further, with more than 1,000 acres of land for possible future development to expand theme park space across its existing sites. That’s equal to about seven new Disneyland parks.
Some of the company’s cruise line plans are already in place, as it previously announced that it will be adding two ships in fiscal 2025 and another in 2026.

The Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment continues to do well for the company, with revenue rising 13% in its fiscal third quarter. That’s helped to offset the struggles in its Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution unit, which saw revenue dip 1% in the period.

Splash Mountain At Disneyland To Close In May
Splash Mountain's closing date has officially been revealed.
The ride’s last day will be May 30 before officially closing on May 31 in order to begin transforming the ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Disney officials announced.
The log flume ride, opened in 1989, received criticism over the years as it features characters from Disney’s controversial 1946 movie “Song of the South.” A Change.org petition in 2020 called for Disney to change the ride’s theme to the “Princess and the Frog”, which features Disney’s first African-American princess, Tiana.
Disney officials also gave a sneak peek into what riders can expect from the upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, including “familiar faces from the film such as Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Mama Odie, Louis, Eudora, Charlotte, “Big Daddy,” the King and Queen of Maldonia and Prince Ralphie.”
The new ride will open to the public in 2024.

Disney World To Host Major Summit On Gay Rights
The Walt Disney Company will host a major conference promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights in the workplace in Central Florida this September, gathering executives and professionals from the world’s largest companies in a defiant display of the limits of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ campaign against diversity training.
Disney’s decision to host the conference this fall comes amid a yearlong dispute between the company and the Republican governor, who signed a law that ended decades of autonomy at the Disney resort. It was seen as punishment over the company’s opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education legislation, known widely as the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which prohibits any discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity in classrooms before fourth grade.
Disney has had a longstanding relationship with Out & Equal, the organization behind the event, and is listed on its website as one of its most generous sponsors.
The Florida resort has committed to hosting the conference this year and next, which will coincide with the presidential election campaign in 2024. DeSantis is widely expected to challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.
Michael Chamberlain, chief marketing officer for Out & Equal, confirmed the conference would be held at The Walt Disney World Resort, Sept. 11-14. Last year’s summit was held in Las Vegas.
Dozens of iconic American companies — including Apple, McDonald’s, Uber, Walmart, Hilton, Amazon, Boeing, Cracker Barrel and John Deere — are sponsoring the Out & Equal Workplace summit, which over 5,000 people are expected to attend. Several agencies, including the State Department and the CIA, are listed as government partners and will have booths at the conference.
The conference comes after DeSantis declared victory over Disney in February when he signed a law that gave him the power to appoint a five-member board overseeing government services at the Disney district near Orlando.
“Today, the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” DeSantis said when he signed the bill. “This is what accountability looks like.”
In his recently released book, DeSantis describes how, after “Disney declared war on Florida families” by opposing the Parental Rights in Education bill and “indulged in woke activism,’’ he asked the Legislature “to reevaluate — and even eliminate — Disney’s special deal.” DeSantis married his wife, Casey, at the Disney World resort in 2009.
Squaring off against Disney was “a political battle that would reverberate across the nation,’’ he wrote.
The subsequent legislation left most of Disney’s special powers in place despite the governor’s attempt to dissolve the district. The conservative members the governor appointed to the board hinted at the first meeting of the new board that they would exercise leverage over Disney, such as prohibiting COVID-19 restrictions at Disney World. But legal experts have said that the new board’s authority has no control over Disney content.
Hosting the conference is another demonstration of the limits on the Republican governor’s ability to influence the content and scope of events at Disney.
‘LARGEST LGBTQ+ CONFERENCE’
Out & Equal says its summit “is the largest LGBTQ+ conference in the world,” bringing executives, employee resource group leaders, human resource professionals and experts in diversity, equity and inclusion together to promote equality.
“Over more than 20 years, Summit has grown to become the preferred place to network and share strategies that create inclusive workplaces, where everyone belongs and where LGBTQ+ employees can be out and thrive,” the website states.
DeSantis has campaigned against diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, pushing for them to be eliminated at state colleges and universities in Florida and asserting that the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank was caused by its focus on DEI programs.
He has accused large corporations that engage in DEI training of attempting to “advance woke ideology through its employee ranks — and virtue signal in the process.”
Rep. Randy Fine, a Palm Bay Republican who last year sponsored the bill to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which governed land use, fire protection, and sewer services on the Disney resort, said he had never heard of the summit and was not troubled by it.
“I’m not willing to interpret it as some grand conspiracy to stick it in the eye of the state of Florida,” Fine said Monday. “Disney is part of the fabric of the Florida economy. ... If they weren’t holding any conferences at Disney World, that would be news because that would be a big problem.”
He said that even the Legislature used to hold annual events at the resort “before all this woke stuff took over” and that, as a former gambling industry executive, he knows that in organizing a large conference, “there are only two places where you can have a conference and increase your attendance — Las Vegas and Orlando.”
Last year’s Out & Equal conference in Las Vegas included multiple speakers who advocated for the rights of transgender youth, and provided attendees with guidance on how to navigate anti-LGBTQ bills at the state level.
YEAR OF TENSION
Tension between DeSantis and Disney arose last spring, when Disney publicly opposed Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The measure prohibits discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, and in older grades when deemed “not age-appropriate.”
When Disney officials did not publicly lobby against the measure, some employees marched out of the company’s California headquarters in protest. Others urged executives to join corporations that were condemning DeSantis, who signed the bill into law.
After Disney published a statement demanding that the law be repealed, DeSantis retaliated by expanding the agenda of a special session on redistricting to include dissolving Disney’s special taxing district. An obscure provision in state law prohibits the state from dissolving the district until its bond debt — which amounted to more than $1 billion — was paid off.
In April, Disney quietly sent a note to its investors to show that it was confident the Legislature’s attempt to dissolve the special taxing district violated the “pledge” the state made when it enacted the district in 1967, and therefore was not legal.
Disney’s decision to host this year’s Out & Equal summit was announced several months later, to participants of the 2022 conference held in October.
After more than nine months of stalemate, legislators approved a measure in February that renames Reedy Creek as the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, and the Disney-appointed board was replaced by conservatives named by DeSantis. But the measure also leaves most of the district’s special powers intact, including the company’s ability to tax itself to pay off its $1 billion in debt.
DeSantis’ office did not respond to requests for comment. Spokespeople for Disney declined to comment. Michael Wilner reported from Washington, D.C.; Mary Ellen Klas reported from Tallahassee.

Travelore Cruise News: New Disney Cruise Line Island Destination At Lighthouse Point In The Bahamas To Welcome Guests In Summer 2024
In summer 2024, Disney Cruise Line will welcome guests to a one-of-a-kind island destination at Lighthouse Point, located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, for the first time. Created in close collaboration with local artists and advisors, the vibrant island retreat will be a unique celebration of Bahamian culture brought to life with the quality and service of a Disney vacation.
"At Disney Cruise Line, we have a deep appreciation for the Bahamian community," said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line. "We are connected in many ways, including our shared values of storytelling and hospitality. With the opening of Lighthouse Point, visitors from around the world will experience the magic of The Bahamas in a new way, one that truly celebrates its natural and cultural beauty."
New details about Lighthouse Point reveal a relaxing beach escape designed with families in mind, infused with the color and energy of Bahamian artistry, and developed with a commitment to conservation at its core.
Uniquely Designed, Sustainably Developed
When guests arrive to Lighthouse Point, they'll be greeted by distinctive, sweeping architecture in bright, saturated hues — a bold style inspired by nature and created in partnership with local artists.
The curvilinear buildings will at first appear as Bahamian shells scattered along the shoreline. Upon closer inspection, guests will discover artistic expressions of the native flora and fauna of The Bahamas and the pageantry and history of Junkanoo parades. Throughout the destination, references to playful folklore characters will evoke the warmth and charm of the local culture.
Respect for the environment is at the heart of the design. At least 90 percent of the destination's electricity needs will be met by an onsite solar array, the pier was designed to avoid the need for dredging and elevated walkways will help limit impact on the landscape.
"Lighthouse Point is a place of extraordinary natural beauty, so our goal has always been to create designs that accentuate its qualities in an organic way," said Kevin Thomas, creative director, Walt Disney Imagineering. "We're focused on low-density, sustainable development that protects and preserves the environment, allowing the site's biodiversity to shine."
Fun and Relaxation for Everyone
At Lighthouse Point, families will enjoy a day of fun in the sun as they relax on pristine beaches, embark on active adventures and discover the magic of Bahamian storytelling alongside favorite Disney characters. Much like Disney's cruise ships and private island of Castaway Cay, Lighthouse Point will offer activities and areas for every age group.
Families can relax and play along white sandy beaches and turquoise waters at the expansive family beach on the east side of the island, which will be centrally located near market-style dining, recreation and other amenities.
A Bahamian art and culture pavilion featuring special programs and local artists will provide visitors to Lighthouse Point opportunities to learn and celebrate the traditions and natural beauty of The Bahamas.
A brightly-colored, interactive family water play area will include two slides, water drums, fountains and more, along with a dedicated space for toddlers. Additional recreational activities will be available for kids and kids-at-heart, including a covered gaming pavilion; a volleyball court and gaga ball pit; watercraft and bicycle rentals; nature trails for hiking and biking; and more.
North of the family area will be an adult-exclusive beach — a glorious stretch of sun-drenched serenity complete with a dedicated dining area for convenient access to food and drinks throughout the day, plus six private cabanas available by reservation.
Children ages 3 to 12 will splash and play at a themed kids' club under the care of highly-trained Disney Cruise Line counselors. It will include a splash pad inspired by favorite undersea creatures from
Walt Disney Animation Studios' "The Little Mermaid," plenty of shade and a dedicated dining area. Set away from the activity of the main family area, a peaceful beach along the south-western shore will be lined with 20 premium family cabanas available to rent, including four double cabanas that accommodate larger groups and offer massage services.
Visitors to Lighthouse Point will have the opportunity to be surrounded by the wonders of nature and get a glimpse into the efforts taking place to conserve wildlife and their unique island habitats. A collection of new Port Adventures developed in partnership with local tour operators will take guests beyond Lighthouse Point to explore the rich culture and breathtaking beauty of Eleuthera.
Disney's new island destination is being thoughtfully designed to provide a hassle-free experience for families, including complimentary beach essentials (towels, chairs and umbrellas and lunch) and convenient tram transportation.
Lighthouse Point will open for guests on select sailings in summer 2024. Details on inaugural itineraries and additional information about signature entertainment, dining, retail and excursions will be released at a later date.

Disney Unveils Park Changes To Bring Back The Magic
The Walt Disney Co. is making several changes at its domestic theme parks, including some easier reservations, in order to improve the public perception of its business.
Among the changes: it will cease charging for overnight self-parking at its Walt Disney World resorts; Walt Disney World annual passholders will be able to visit the theme parks after 2 p.m. without needing a park reservation (except on Saturdays and Sundays at Magic Kingdom) and individuals buying its Genie+ service will receive digital downloads of their ride photos taken in the park on the day of their purchase for no additional charge.
Like many companies, Disney struggled during the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its theme parks were shut down for some time, with the closures causing delays in the construction of various projects. Concurrently, former CEO Bob Chapek received a lot of criticism for increased prices and other moves that the company made, including the end of the Magical Express bus service from the airport in Orlando, Florida to Walt Disney World resorts, the implementation of the Genie planning and ride reservation system and its theme park reservation system.
Disney theme park loyalists have not shied away from their criticism of the moves that have occurred over the past two years, with some even bemoaning on social media that “the magic is gone.”
One big recent change is the return of Bob Iger to the Burbank, California-based company. Iger replaced Chapek as CEO in November and just a few weeks later was seen visiting the Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks in Anaheim, California with Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products.
Disney is now making known that it is listening to its visitors. On Tuesday the company made a flurry of announcements that were largely met with great fanfare by theme park goers.
Disney had started charging for overnight self-parking at its resorts at Disney World in 2018. It went back to offering complimentary overnight parking as of Tuesday evening. Disney resort guests continue to receive complimentary standard parking at Disney World theme parks.
“This is a Disney difference many of you have asked us to bring back, and we’re happy to reintroduce it to make your vacation a little easier and more affordable,” the company said in a statement on its Disney Parks blog.
The company did not give specific dates for the annual passholder or Genie+ changes, only to say that they will start in the next few months.
“Please know we will keep listening to you and adapting as we focus on making the guest experience even better for more people who visit us,” the company said.
Disney also made some other announcements that theme park goers have been anxiously waiting for, including the return of its “Happily Ever After” nighttime show at Magic Kingdom on April 3 and an official opening date of April 4 for its TRON Lightcycle/Run roller coaster at the same park.
Changes are also afoot at Disneyland. They include allowing people who buy a Magic Key pass or a Park Hopper ticket the ability to switch between its Disneyland and California Adventure parks two hours earlier, at 11 a.m. Pacific Time, beginning on Feb. 4. It’s also adding more dates for people to buy its $104 one-day, one-park tickets and giving complimentary digital photo downloads for any PhotoPass available ride for all ticketed park guests on the Disneyland app starting Feb. 4, for the length of its Disney100 celebration.

World's Largest Cruise Ship Saved From Scrap Yard By Disney
DISNEY has bought a massive 208,000 ton cruise liner that was destined for the scrap yard for a knocked-down price.
The sale price for the Global Dream cruise ship was reportedly $1.3 billion, but Disney got it at a reduced price as the cruiser was headed to the junk yard.
The ship, currently docked in Wismar shipyard in Germany, was owned by the now-bankrupt Genting Cruise Lines - which based operations out of Hong Kong.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a northern state in Germany where the ship is docked, is reported to have lost $270 million on the deal after backing up the now-bankrupt Genting Cruise Lines.
Disney said they plan to work with Meyer Werft shipbuilding company to transform the enormous cruise liner.
Meyer Werft is a Papenburg-based company that has previously worked with Disney - building the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish cruise ships.
The cruise ship is expected to be renamed and relaunched in 2025 in the United States, where it will base its operations.
Josh D'Amaro, the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products said: "Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before.”
The new ship is expected to mirror other Disney cruise ships, featuring ''innovative Disney experiences'', ''dazzling entertainment'' and ''world-class dining'' that Disney Cruise Lines set as their standard.
"The exterior will be adorned in the iconic, Mickey Mouse-inspired colours of the fleet, complete with signature red funnels,'' Disney said.
The 208,000-gross-ton ship will be one of the first in the cruise industry to run entirely on green methanol - one of the lowest-emission fuels available.
The ship will boast 2,300 crew members and have space for 6,000 passengers in addition to its many amenities.
Despite the local German government losing money on the sale to Disney, refurbishment of the cruise liner will secure employment for former MV Werften employees and provide opportunities for other maritime industry suppliers, Disney said.
No itinerary has been released for the future luxury cruise liner, but other Disney Cruise lines sail to locations including Europe, Mexico, Canada, and the South Pacific.
Disney recently announced new vacations for guests available in Australia and New Zealand in late 2023.
There was no information about the more detailed itinerary and plans for the ship at this stage.

Space Mountain Permanently Closing At Tokyo Disney Park As Tomorrowland Is Fully Transformed
In a move that is sure to both excite and devastate Disney fans, The Oriental Land Company has announced that Tokyo Disney Resort’s Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland is to receive a major investment project which will see the area totally transformed and the beloved Space Mountain permanently closed.
The Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba opened as Tokyo Disneyland in 1983 as the first official Disney theme park outside of the United States. Eventually, the Disney Resort grew with the addition of a second gate, Tokyo DisneySea featuring the American Waterfront, and the retail complex Ikspiari. Tokyo Disney Resort is unique in the way it is wholly owned by The Oriental Land Company under license from The Walt Disney Company.
Featuring a plethora of fan-favorite Disney attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain, and Space Mountain at Adventureland, Westernland, and Tomorrowland, respectively, Tokyo Disneyland brings Disney magic to Guests from all over the world. Other lands include the World Bazaar and Critter Country.
A staple of the Disney Parks portfolio, an iteration of the Space Mountain attraction is present at most Disney Parks worldwide. At Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris, the dark-ride coaster is branded as Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain — with something similar returning to Disneyland Resort very soon — and at the Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida, Guests can experience Disney’s first-ever Space Mountain.
Now, in a bold move, The Oriental Land Company has announced a major transformation to both Space Mountain and Tomorrowland with the popular Disney ride being completely rebuilt.
In line with this new project, The Oriental Land Company has announced that Space Mountain as fans know it will close in 2024 with the completed new attraction and Tomorrowland plaza slated to open in 2027. According to the report, the major renovation will cost a projected 56 billion Japanese Yen (approx. $438 million). So far, there has only been one concept art image shared of the vision thus far.
It is not clear when in 2024 the attraction will close but all eyes are sure to be on the progress of this project at Tokyo Disneyland. It will be interesting to see if any other Disney Parks announce updates to any of their versions of Space Mountain in the future.

Why Are Disney And DeSantis Feuding In Florida?
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed into law a bill to dissolve a private government controlled by Disney that provides municipal-like services for its 27,000 acres (nearly 11,000 hectares) in the Sunshine State.
The new law is largely seen as retribution for Disney’s criticism of a new state law that critics have dubbed “Don’t Say Gay,” which bars instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.
The entertainment giant has not commented publicly on the proposal to dissolve its government, which has been in operation for 55 years.
WHAT DOES THE LAW DO?
The bill, which the Legislature passed on Thursday and DeSantis signed into law on Friday, would eliminate the Reedy Creek Improvement District, as the Disney government is known, as well as a handful of other similar districts by June 2023.
The measure does allow for the districts to be reestablished, leaving an avenue for Disney and lawmakers to renegotiate their deal between now and June 2023.
“By doing it this early, we have until next June or July to this put together, so we’re actually giving ourselves more time to be thoughtful,” said Republican Senate President Wilton Simpson. “I don’t know how the end will come, but I know that this is a very worthy process that we’re taking and I think whatever comes out of it will be better than what we have today.”
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Although details are far from clear, the proposal could have huge tax implications for Disney. Democratic state lawmakers who oppose the bill also have warned that it could result in homeowners getting hit with big tax bills if they have to absorb costs the company used to pay.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, whose county is partially home to Disney World, said it would be “catastrophic for our budget” if the county had to assume the costs for public safety at the theme park resort. Reedy Creek currently reimburses the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for public safety costs.
“If that district goes away, and they no longer pay for those public safety costs, and it then has to fall to the county’s other budgets, that is a net sum loss to the rest of the taxpayers of Orange County,” Demings said.
WHY DOES DISNEY HAVE ITS OWN GOVERNMENT IN FLORIDA?
The company sold the idea to Florida lawmakers in 1967 as part of its plans to build an expansive East Coast theme park that would include a futuristic city.
The city never materialized, but Walt Disney World nevertheless became an entertainment juggernaut in Orlando, while still retaining governmental powers that have allowed it to decide what and how to build and to issue bonds and provide services such as zoning, fire protection and utilities.
The Reedy Creek Improvement District, as the Disney government is known, has been allowed to build its own roads, run its own wastewater treatment plants, operate its own fire department, set its own building codes and inspect Disney buildings for safety.
The district had $169 million in revenues and $178 million in expenditures in the current budget year.
Disney is a major political player in Florida, as well as the rest of the country. The Walt Disney Co. and its affiliates made more than $20 million in political contributions to both Republicans and Democrats in the 2020 campaign cycle, the most recent year for which figures are available, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks such spending.
That same year, Disney-related entities funneled $10.5 million to the America First Action committee, which supports Republican former President Donald Trump. Disney also contributed $1.2 million to support President Joe Biden’s campaign.
In response to the gender instruction law, Disney announced it was suspending political donations in the state and would support organizations that oppose it.
WHY ELIMINATE THE GOVERNMENT NOW?
DeSantis has railed against Disney after the company’s public opposition to the gender instruction law.
This week, as lawmakers were returning to the Capitol for a special legislative session focused on congressional redistricting, DeSantis issued a proclamation allowing them to also take up legislation eliminating the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
For the governor, the attack on Disney is his latest salvo in a culture war waged over policies involving race, gender and the coronavirus, battles that have made him one of the most popular GOP politicians in the country and a likely 2024 presidential candidate.
“If Disney wants to pick a fight, they chose the wrong guy” the governor wrote in a fundraising email. “As Governor, I was elected to put the people of Florida first, and I will not allow a woke corporation based in California to run our state.”
Republican Rep. Randy Fine, sponsor of the bill to scrap the district, said it is time for a change.
“You kick the hornet’s nest, things come up. And I will say this: You got me on one thing — this bill does target one company. It targets the Walt Disney Co.,” Fine said. “You want to know why? Because they are the only company in the state that has ever been granted the right to govern themselves.”

Disney World: Face Masks Optional For All Areas Of Resort
Walt Disney World has lifted the last of its mask requirements, meaning face coverings will be optional for visitors at all locations on the central Florida Disney property.
The rule change was posted Tuesday on Disney’s website. Masks are still recommended, though not required, for guests who are not fully vaccinated in indoor locations and enclosed transportation.
In February, the park made face coverings optional for fully vaccinated visitors in all indoor and outdoor locations, with the exception of enclosed transportation, such as the resort’s monorail, buses and the resort’s sky gondola. The new rule change removes the transportation exception, as well as the requirement to be vaccinated.
The change comes a day after a federal judge in Florida threw out a national mask mandate for public transportation. The ruling gives airports, mass transit systems, airlines and ride-hailing services the option to keep mask rules or ditch them entirely.
Major airlines were some of the first to update their rules after the court decision. United, Southwest, American, Alaska, Delta and JetBlue announced that effective immediately, masks would no longer be required on domestic flights. The ride-sharing companies Lyft and Uber announced on their websites Tuesday that masks will now be optional while riding or driving.

Mickey Mouse Can Start Hugging Again At Disney Parks
For nearly two years, costumed characters at U.S. Disney parks have kept their distance from visitors because of the pandemic. They haven’t been able to give hugs, sign autographs or interact up close with fans.
That is about to change in a few weeks when the parks reintroduce traditional character greetings. As soon as mid-April, personal interaction between visitors and costumed characters will be allowed again at Disneyland in California, Walt Disney World in Florida and on Disney cruises, the company said late last week in a blog post.
The parks closed temporarily because of the coronavirus in spring 2020. After the parks reopened that summer, costumed characters could only be seen waving from a distance in the parks or in parades. Last fall, the parks allowed the costumed characters to return to locations around the parks for individualized meet-ups with visitors, but they were only allowed to greet visitors and have their photos taken from a distance.
“Very soon, you will once again be able to hug Mickey Mouse, get an autograph from Mulan, and share a laugh with Goofy,” the post said. “We know many of you have missed these special moments, and your Disney character friends have missed you, too!”
Not all the traditional locations for character greetings will be open right away, the company said. They will be reopened in phases.

Disney Finds Itself In Balancing Act With Walkout Threat
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — With some workers across the U.S. threatening a walkout Tuesday, The Walt Disney Co. finds itself in a balancing act between the expectations of a diverse workforce and demands from an increasingly polarized, politicized marketplace.
On the one side are LGBTQ advocates and Disney employees calling for a walkout in protest of CEO Bob Chapek’s slow response in publicly criticizing Florida legislation that opponents dubbed as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The legislation awaiting the governor’s signature bars instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.
On the other are politicians like Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who accuse the entertainment conglomerate of bending to cancel culture after a Disney decision to temporarily suspend political contributions in the state. According to Disney’s conservative critics, the company should be in the business of making profits, not pushing an agenda.
It was unclear how many employees would walk out or what might happen to those who do. Union leaders for the tens of thousands of unionized workers at Disney theme parks in Florida and California said they saw no momentum among their members for a walkout, and advised them not to do so because it would defy contractual obligations. Organizers said they expected some participation from production, marketing, IT and other non-unionized jobs.
Evan Power, the Republican Party chairman in Leon County, said he believes a strident minority of Disney employees are pushing the issue and DeSantis has more to gain by taking the side of parents who want more control over education and “sexual conversations” in early grades at school. DeSantis is viewed as a likely Republican presidential candidate in 2024.
“I think it pays dividends with parents across the state of Florida regardless of political divisions,” Power said.
Romualdas Dulskis, a Teamsters official in Orlando whose local represents costumed characters who portray Mickey Mouse, Cinderella and Stich at Walt Disney world, plus bus drivers and other Disney workers, his union did not support the walkout.
“That’s just not the way we are going to go about this,” he said.
Union leaders said contracts prohibits work stoppages or disruptions.
“I don’t want to downplay anyone’s efforts, if someone feels what they are doing is the right way to make an impact,” said Eric Clinton, president of Unite Here! Local 362, which represents custodians, housekeepers and other Disney World theme park workers. “We aren’t part of that. It would violate our contract if members of our union participated, though we are concerned about the issue, of course.”
One of the organizers of the walkout, a New York-based employee, said they were expecting participation by workers with the “privilege” to be able to protest to stand up for those who can’t, the employee said. The worker spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of being targeted online and because organizers didn’t want a single organizer taking the spotlight.
Workers participating in the walkout plan to meet up with each other at locations in Orlando, New York City, Anaheim and Burbank, California, where the company is headquartered.
“Queer employees have been pushing for years to make this company better -- it shouldn’t have taken all this for us to get the attention of people up the food chain. Our voices mattered before all this,” organizers tweeted Tuesday.
A Disney spokesman didn’t respond to an email seeking comment. Disney employed 190,000 workers as of last October, with roughly three-quarters working in its theme parks division.
Disney, whose movies and properties shaped generations of children around the world, has spoken out several times in recent years about contentious social and political situations.
It was one of a slew of U.S. companies that in January 2021 said it would suspend political donations to lawmakers who voted against certifying President Joe Biden’s electoral victory. It also spoke out early against a 2016 anti-gay bill in Georgia, threatening to pull its business from the state, which has become a favorite of movie and TV studios. The bill was vetoed by Georgia’s then-governor.
And the company has not been immune to changing societal expectations. It has said it would revamp the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean and Splash Mountain rides at its theme parks to remove racist and sexist elements and put short warnings in front of some of its classic movies on its streaming service, Disney+, alerting viewers to “outdated cultural depictions.”
This time, Chapek, who became CEO in 2020, has drawn fire for speaking out about the gender identity bill only after it passed the Florida Legislature.
Republican lawmakers pushing the Florida legislation had argued that parents, not teachers, should be the ones talking to their children about gender issues during their early formative years.
The legislation attracted scrutiny from Biden, who called it “hateful,” as well as other Democrats who argue it demonizes LGBTQ people. It has been sent to DeSantis, who is expected to sign it into law.
Chapek apologized earlier this month for not coming out more forcefully and publicly against the bill, saying Disney officials had been working behind the scenes to stop it. Chapek also announced a pause to all political donations in Florida and more support for advocacy groups fighting similar legislation in other states. Chapek reiterated those points during a company-wide discussion with employees on Monday.
Disney has long been influential in Florida politics, tending to be conservative and supporting Republicans who have been in control of Tallahassee, the state capital, for two decades, but also being more open on social issues, said Patricia Campos-Medina, co-director of the Worker Institute at Cornell University. “That’s why people felt surprised that they wanted to stay quiet on this issue,” she said.
Organizers of the walkout maintain that withholding political contributions isn’t enough.
On a website calling for the walkout, the group says that until the legislation is repealed, Disney leaders need to stop investments in Florida, including the relocation of 2,000 mostly professional jobs from its California headquarters to Orlando. They also say Disney needs to develop an LGBTQ brand similar to the Onyx Collective, an initiative aimed at developing content by and for people of color.
Power, the GOP official in Tallahassee, said he’s confident that Disney and Florida Republicans will get past this flashpoint and restore their relationship, eventually.
“It’s good that we’re pushing back, because the purpose of a publicly traded company is not to push an agenda,” Power said. “The people at Disney know they need to work with the Legislature and the governor, and they’ll come back around.”

Disney Resort To Require Negative COVID-19 Test For Entry, Reduces Park Capacity
Since 2020, the entirety of the Disney Parks and Resorts have looked and felt incredibly different. Guests have had to adapt and adjust to all of the different protocols, rules, and regulations at the Parks in order to keep not only themselves safe but other Guests and Cast Members as well. Now, one Disney Resort has just beefed up its policies regarding the virus.
It was just announced that Shanghai Disney Resort will be changing its guidelines and policies when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic and Guest safety in a very drastic way.
See the full statement from the official Shanghai Disney Resort website below:
In order to follow Shanghai’s pandemic control and prevention requirements and ensure the safety and health of our guests and Cast Members, we will further enhance Shanghai Disney Resort’s onsite pandemic control and prevention measures. All measures will be effective immediately unless otherwise indicated and include but are not limited to the following:
– Shanghai Disneyland will operate with controlled capacity.
– The majority of Shanghai Disneyland’s attractions and shows will operate at reduced capacity. The theatre shows will be temporarily suspended.
– All guests will be required to present a China government ID card or valid travel document, a green Health QR Code, a green Telecommunication Data-Based Travel Itinerary Card (Travel Itinerary Card), scan the Shanghai QR Code for contact tracing, and a Shanghai Disneyland Reservation QR Code upon entering Shanghai Disneyland.
– Effective Sunday, March 13, 2022, guests will also be required to present proof of a negative Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) taken within 24 hours prior to entering Shanghai Disney Resort.
– All guests will be required to wear masks during their entire visit to the resort, including both indoors and outdoors, except when dining, and strictly follow social distancing requirements.
– All Cast Members will be required to undergo regular NAT testing.
– The frequency of sanitization and disinfection throughout the resort will be further strengthened.
Shanghai Disney Resort including Shanghai Disneyland, the two themed hotels, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park continue to operate at this time. However, we understand that some guests may wish to change their travel plans. Guests who have purchased the dated products or services can contact their original purchase channel for related enquiries, or contact the Shanghai Disney Resort Reservation Center on: 400-180-0000 (Chinese Mainland) or +86-21-3158-0000 (Other Countries/Regions) for all enquiries.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
As you can see, Guests will now have to show a negative COVID-19 test to enter the Disney Park as well as wear masks at all times while inside. Park capacity is also being reduced and numerous indoor shows will be going on an indefinite hiatus. The Park also recently made changes to its pricing structure which we covered here.
While all of these rules may be cumbersome, it is important that Disney keep the safety of its Guests a top priority as COVID-19 continues to spread in the area.
At Shanghai Disneyland, Guests can meet Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, StellaLou, and CookieAnn. The newest addition to the crew is LinaBell, a fox who has already gained immense popularity. The Park is located in Pudong, China, Shanghai Disneyland features seven lands, which include: Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Treasure Cove, Tomorrowland, and Toy Story Land.
Nestled behind Enchanted Storybook Castle, Fantasyland is home to a number of popular Disney attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. In 2019, it was announced that Shanghai Disneyland will be the first Disney Park in the world that will welcome a Zootopia themed land in the form of the City of Zootopia located inside Fantasyland.

Walt Disney Imagineering Presents The EPCOT Experience Closing Permanently On March 14, 2022.
Statement from Disney about the closing:
"Since its 2019 debut, Walt Disney Imagineering presents the EPCOT Experience has welcomed more than two million guests, as travelers from around the world enjoyed an immersive look at the past, present and future of this beloved park. This attraction gave our team a chance to share a first-person view of the vision coming to life during this ongoing “state of becoming.” It’s a rare moment to see these milestones unfold, and we’ve been inspired and deeply grateful to have this opportunity to pull back the curtain on our thinking.
With the transformation now well under way and many of those projects now open – including Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Harmonious and the upcoming debut of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind this summer – we have decided it is time to close the EPCOT Experience on March 14 and make way for exciting new activations of the Odyssey pavilion to create a great experience for our guests.
I’m proud of the work and storytelling that our Imagineers put into this incredible 360-degree presentation, as it beautifully set the stage for the largest transformation in the history of EPCOT, and provided an in-depth look at the exciting attractions and experiences being developed for this beloved park. I always like to say to our team that EPCOT is a park about people – our dreams, our curiosity and our ability to make magic possible when we work together. The EPCOT Experience was a showcase of all those things, inviting each of you to dream with us as we create the future of EPCOT together.
We have a lot more to share in the weeks and months ahead, and I am grateful for the opportunity to provide an in-depth look at the process through our Imagineering lens. Follow along with me here as we share more exciting details about this historic EPCOT transformation, including Journey of Water inspired by Moana, the ongoing evolution of World Celebration, and more!"
