Embassy Suites And Hampton Hotels Add “by Hilton” Endorsement To Their Names

Strategic Change Linked to Brand Evolution and Global Recognition

Hilton Worldwide  has announced a re-branding of Embassy Suites Hotels and Hampton Hotels in the U.S., adding the “by Hilton” endorsement to their monikers. The new brand logos and names, Embassy Suites by Hilton and Hampton by Hilton, represent the next phase of a renewed business strategy to further reinforce the brands’ identities within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio and the company’s continued commitment to the future growth, expansion, and evolution of its brands. The phased rollout begins this quarter and will bring about greater consistency as these brands already carry the ‘by Hilton’ endorsement outside of the U.S.

“The Hilton brand symbolizes quality, consistency, and familiarity, providing further reassurance to guests and owners alike,” said Jim Holthouser, executive vice president, global brands, Hilton Worldwide. “Research and historical brand data indicate that guests are more likely to stay at a ‘by Hilton’ hotel, and we are confident that this simple global modification to the Embassy Suites and Hampton brands will have a positive impact on brand performance for owners, developers, and franchisees as well as consumers.”

This addition to the brand name follows the course of other Hilton brands including DoubleTree by Hilton, Canopy by Hilton, and Curio – A Collection by Hilton, and will continue to further align brand recognition and global consistency across the Hilton Worldwide portfolio. Currently, five Embassy Suites properties and 101 Hampton properties include “by Hilton” in their brand names, the majority of which are outside the U.S. This change will apply to all Embassy Suites hotels and Hampton hotels in the U.S., which will now be known as Hampton Inn by Hilton and Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton.

Consumers can now confidently associate the Embassy Suites and Hampton brands with the quality and consistency of Hilton Worldwide, thereby increasing consumer familiarity of their brand attributes, including opportunities to earn/redeem points and benefits with Hilton HHonors, the award-winning guest-loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide’s twelve distinct brands. Hilton HHonors members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels have access to benefits including digital check-in and choose-your-room, and coming in summer 2015, free Wi-Fi.

Supporting Brand Research
After looking at historical data from the DoubleTree by Hilton rebranding effort in 2011 and conducting proprietary market research, findings showed that the “by Hilton” association results in increased expectations around service, guest rooms, comfort, locations and awareness of the brand’s association with the Hilton portfolio. The rebranding campaign of DoubleTree also saw improvement across key metrics, such as average daily rate (ADR), occupancy and revenue per available room (RevPar).

Brand Evolution
The “by Hilton” endorser will further reinforce the next generation and refresh of legacy Embassy Suites and Hampton properties. Between 2015 and 2019, more than 45 percent of Embassy Suites properties will have completed or be in the process of a relicensing and renovation, totaling more than $300 million across the portfolio. The brand has also introduced new food & beverage options and an additional design option for new build projects, offering greater flexibility for owners to adapt their hotels to their markets while maintaining Embassy Suites’ signature brand pillars.

In addition, Hampton has remained focused on keeping the brand relevant for guests and franchise owners by re-envisioning it at appropriate times.  In 2013, Hampton’s forever young initiative (fyi) launched as a way to extend the life of current Hampton properties nearing the relicensing process. fyi created a fresh look and feel, welcoming new travelers with a modern makeover, keeping the core Hampton trust points intact. The program upgrades building exteriors, guestrooms and baths and to date, hundreds of Hampton hotels have completed the fyi renovations. For new-builds, the core elements of fyi have become part of brand standards.

Travelore News: Five DoubleTree By Hilton Properties Join Historic Hotels Of America

as a passenger train terminal dating back to 1894. Credit: DoubleTree by Hilton.

DoubleTree by Hilton announced today that five of its most celebrated and distinguished hotels have joined the prestigious Historic Hotels of AmericaTM organization. From the ground on which Harry S. Truman once waved the “Dewey Defeats Truman” headline to the property now recognized as the “Official Hotel of the Alamo,” these five storied historic hotels embody the spirit and legacy of DoubleTree by Hilton in their own communities. The official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation®, Historic Hotels of America recognizes only the finest hotels for maintaining their authenticity, sense of place and architectural integrity. To qualify for the program, hotels must have historic significance, be at least 50 years old, be designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or be listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

“From opening the first DoubleTree by Hilton in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1969 to celebrating the 300 millionth cookie given away at check-in last March, DoubleTree by Hilton has a long-standing legacy of delivering the ‘little things’ that create a better travel experience,” said John Greenleaf, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton. “Maintaining the history and heritage of these iconic hotels is just another way we strive to celebrate the cities in which our hotels are located and continue our commitment both to our guests and the local communities we serve. We’re honored to have these outstanding properties added to the esteemed Historic Hotels of America collection.”

With its diverse global portfolio of hotels, DoubleTree by Hilton is one of the fastest-growing hotel brands in the upscale, full service hotel category, recognized around the world for a service culture built around the idea of CARE, which stands for creating a rewarding experience for guests, team members and the community. Guests who have stayed at a DoubleTree by Hilton in recent years have seen a dramatic transformation of the brand's hotel experience through reinvestments by hotel owners and the brand in amenities, services and style, including historic landmarks.

“These legendary DoubleTree by Hilton hotels celebrate rich aspects of the heritage, history, transportation, and grand architectural accomplishments of the United States, and we are proud to welcome them as members of Historic Hotels of America,” said Lawrence Horwitz, executive director, Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide.

Each DoubleTree by Hilton property inducted into Historic Hotels of America illustrates a standard of excellence for which the brand is known. The properties recognized by Historic Hotels of America include:
  • Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center – a DoubleTree by Hilton: Originally erected in 1882 as the headquarters hotel for the Norfolk Western Railroad, the Hotel Roanoke was built as part of a comprehensive community development plan and grand vision of railroad entrepreneur and magnate Frederick Kimball. The hotel, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, flourished even during the Great Depression, and has since grown from 36 rooms to 331 rooms.
  • St. Louis Union Station – a DoubleTree by Hilton: The hotel initially functioned as a passenger train terminal dating back to 1894. The famous photograph of Harry S. Truman holding the Chicago Tribune with the headline, “Dewey Defeats Truman,” was taken at the station as Truman traveled to Washington, D.C. after the 1948 presidential election. The St. Louis Union Station was once the largest train station in the United States with the most daily passengers of any train station in the world.
  • DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Detroit Downtown – Fort Shelby: This hotel opened its doors in 1917 as The Fort Shelby Hotel, named for its iconic setting on the site of the famous Fort Shelby, colonial-era fort that stood nearby until 1829 and played a role in the War of 1812.
  • The Emily Morgan San Antonio – a DoubleTree by Hilton: Known as the “Official Hotel of the Alamo,” the hotel opened in 1924 and is named after the servant girl who was rumored to have wooed the Mexican General Santa Anna during the Battle of San Jacinto.
  • The Tudor Arms Cleveland – a DoubleTree by Hilton: The Tudor Arms was originally built in 1933 and opened as the swanky, exclusive Cleveland Club featuring ballrooms, a swimming pool, a bowling alley and beautiful views of downtown Cleveland. Near the end of the Great Depression it evolved into a hotel known as the Tudor Arms and soon became a noted entertainment venue.
To book their stay, consumers can visit www.doubletree.com or www.historichotels.org. For more information or to download historical photos of these hotels, media may visit news.doubletree.com/historichotels.

Hilton Expands Welcome Program For Chinese Travelers Globally

Leading Hospitality Company Offers Specially-Tailored Services for Chinese Travelers at Top Destinations Worldwide
This information originated in American English.

Hilton Worldwide today announced the expansion of Hilton Huanying (huān yίng) - a program that offers Chinese travelers a customized hospitality experience during their stay - to more than 110 Hilton Worldwide properties globally. As Chinese citizens make up the world's largest outbound travel market1 and are continually evolving in their needs, Hilton has updated the Huanying program amenities and service standards. These offerings meet the needs of the modern day Chinese traveler, while maintaining the comforts that harken back to home. With this expansion, Hilton Huanying - deriving its name from the Chinese word for 'welcome' - will now greet guests at participating hotels under brands including Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton in more than 30 countries and 65 cities popular among Chinese travelers, including Tokyo, Seoul, London, Paris, New York and San Francisco.

"Huanying is an essential part of the Hilton hospitality promise, welcoming Chinese travelers with a level of service and personalization we know they expect and enjoy," said Rob Palleschi, global head, full service brands, Hilton Worldwide. "Since being introduced in 2011 at 51 properties in 13 countries, Huanying has empowered more than a million Chinese travelers to explore new destinations with the comforts of home. We are very proud of this program, and the benefits are clear. Chinese travelers who stay at Huanying properties express a greater overall satisfaction in their hospitality experience."

Chinese outbound travel is expected to grow at an unprecedented pace, with the number of outbound Chinese travelers expected to double from 100M to 200M by 20202, and Hilton is responding by enhancing its Huanying program. Through its extensive field research, Hilton has discovered that Chinese guests who stay at participating properties expressed a substantial increase in customer satisfaction in areas including service, accommodations, property loyalty and overall experience. In fact, a third party survey found that Hilton is the preferred hotel brand amongst Chinese travelers3.

"Driven by our in-depth knowledge of China, where we have been operating hotels for over 25 years, and our position as a global hospitality company with over 4,300 hotels operating in 94 countries, we have a unique advantage in addressing the needs of the Chinese travelers," said Martin Rinck, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide. "With this in mind, we applied our comprehensive understanding of where Chinese travelers like to visit and what they look for when they stay at a hotel, in order to develop a tailor-made service that better meets the needs of our Chinese guests, in the form of Hilton Huanying."

In order to continue to best serve the needs of the evolving Chinese traveler, Huanying program offerings have been expanded to include additional locations, expanded traditional breakfast options and a 24-hour interpretation service that Mandarin-speaking guests may access during their travels.

These offerings were added while maintaining Huanying's focus on three signature hospitality touch points: the arrival experience, guest room amenities and the breakfast experience. The complete list of Huanying offerings include:

Arrival Experience
  • Huanying Greeting: a welcome note in Simplified Chinese
  • Mandarin interpretation service (Many properties offer Mandarin speaking team member(s) as well)
Guest Room Amenities
  • Tea kettles
  • Jasmine tea
  • Slippers
  • Dedicated Mandarin-speaking television channel
Breakfast Experience
  • Two varieties of congee with condiments, fried rice or fried noodles, a dim sum selection, fried dough fritters (crullers), hard boiled eggs, Chinese tea, fresh fruit and soy milk
