The Complete List And Rankings Of The 10 Happiest Seaside Towns Will Be Revealed
In The July/August Issue Of Coastal Living
– Chincoteague, Virginia, tops the Coastal Living third annual list of “America’s Happiest Seaside Towns.” The complete list of the 10 best places to live and visit by the sea is featured in the July/August 2014 issue of Coastal Living, on newsstands June 20.
Chincoteague’s win marks the first for the Mid-Atlantic seaboard. Located on Virginia’s eastern shore, Chincoteague is the state’s only resort island and remains a haven of unspoiled nature, as well as a home for the island’s historic wild ponies.
Coastal Living editors unveiled the list of America’s 10 “Happiest Seaside Towns” in the March 2014 issue and invited America to vote online and via smartphone. Fans rallied around their favorite towns, and Chincoteague was voted No. 1, followed by Captiva Island, Florida.
“Beach towns have a special place in people’s hearts. Whether they’re longtime residents, frequent vacationers, or one-time visitors, they have a passion for these towns that’s invigorating to see,” said Coastal Living Editor-in-Chief Antonia van der Meer. “This list features some of the world’s most beautiful and charming coastal communities, and we are thrilled to share it with America.”

Coastal Living chose its 2014 “America’s Happiest Seaside Towns” finalists based on criteria that included ranking on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of sunny days, healthiness of beaches, commute times, walkability, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, geographic diversity, and an editorial assessment of “coastal vibe.” Locations named as “America’s Happiest Seaside Towns” in 2012 and 2013 were not eligible to make the list.
