Qatar Airways Nearly Doubles The Number Of Global Destinations Accessible To Philadelphia Passengers

Qatar Airways adjusts departure time of daily Philadelphia flight to Doha to expand connections to an additional 25 locations across India, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe as of February 1^st, 2018.

In response to growing demand from customers, Qatar Airways daily flights departing from Philadelphia will be retimed to connect passengers to an additional 25 destinations around the world starting February 1^st, 2018; nearly doubling Philadelphians’ access to Qatar Airways global network. The later departing flight from Philadelphia will enable passengers to access a multitude of coveted destinations in Thailand, Vietnam, Armenia and many more. In addition, the updated service will connect Qatar Airways award-wining hub at Doha’s Hamad International Airport with over 13 destinations across India; opening up the subcontinent to both leisure and business travelers.

Qatar Airways Plans Further US Expansion

Following the launch of its new daily non-stop service from Doha to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Qatar Airways has announced it plans to expand to other US destinations.

The Doha-based carrier launched its new service to the US amid the ongoing dispute between Gulf carriers and the US airlines. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have claimed “unfair competition” from Gulf airlines is impacting on their business, saying the likes of Emirates, Etihad and Qatar AIrways are being supported by government subsidies - a claim strongly denied.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker, speaking at the launch of the LAX service, said the airline plans to expand further into the US.

“Los Angeles is one of the great centres of world aviation and will become a vital component in our expanding global network,” said Al Baker. “We look forward to introducing ‘Angelenos’ to our award-winning signature service, with access to more than 150 destinations around the world, through our central hub in Doha.”

The Los Angeles mayor, Eric Garcetti, said the new flight will bring an additional boost to the local economy.

“I’m pleased to welcome Qatar Airways’ new service between LAX and Doha. This new international flight will add more than $600 million to our economy, boost our growing tourism sector, and support thousands of new jobs for Angelenos. It’s exciting to see LAX take yet another step forward as it continues to extend its reach across the globe,” he said.

Al Baker also spoke about the increased cargo capacity made available by the new Los Angeles service, with a fourth weekly freighter to serve LAX starting January 19.

Following the press conference, Qatar Airways hosted a celebratory launch gala at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, which featured a performance by global superstar Mariah Carey.

LA is the eighth US destination for Qatar Airways, and the airline will launch new services later this year to Boston (March 16) and Atlanta (June 1), as well as a second daily flight to New York's JFK Airport in April.

In addition to new routes, the airline has brought the new Airbus A350 XWB to the States, where it now flies a daily, non-stop service to and from Philadelphia (PHL). The A350s will also serve the Philadelphia and Boston routes and the second JFK flight.

During an interview with US media last month, Al Baker said he has two other US destinations in mind where the airline planned to expand into, but didn’t name them.

The company will also open a new flagship office at New York’s Empire State Building.

Philadelphia will be the first city in the United States to land regular passenger service on the new Airbus A350.

Qatar Airways, the world's first airline to begin flying the A350, will put the the A350 on its Philadelphia flights starting Jan. 1. The carrier currently flies one daily round-trip between Philadelphia and its hub in Doha on Boeing 777 jets.

"We are very pleased to announce the launch of our first A350 service to the United States," Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker says in a statement.

"Philadelphia is the sixth largest metropolitan area in the USA and is an important international business hub that is home to seven Fortune 1000 companies," he adds. "With the launch of the new A350 service from January 1st next year, Qatar Airways will be further strengthening its position in Philadelphia and the U.S. overall as an airline offering passengers a world-class travel experience."

Qatar Airways also revealed plans to put its new A350s on other U.S. routes. Beginning March 1, Qatar Airways will begin using the jet on one of its flights to New York. And on March 16, the carrier will begin using the jet on its service between Boston and Doha.

The A350 is the latest brand-new aircraft type to be introduced by either Airbus or Boeing, the world's two biggest aircraft manufacturers.

Qatar Airways became the first carrier in the world to take delivery of the jet late last year. And, in January, Qatar Airways was the first to put the A350 into regular revenue service when it debuted the jet on a route between Doha and Frankfurt.

The A350 also will likely be the last completely new aircraft from the world's two big jetmakers for the foreseeable future. Neither Boeing nor Airbus currently have any all-new models under way, meaning it could be a decade or longer until passengers see another all-new aircraft type produced by either of them.

The A350 is the third all-new aircraft to be rolled out by either Airbus or Boeing during the past decade. It joins Airbus' superjumbo A380 – which debuted in 2007 – and Boeing's new-age 787 "Dreamliner," which made its first flight for an airline in 2011.
