2023 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show Announces Theme and Ticket Sale, Returning To The Pennsylvania Convention Center March 4 - 12 2023

PHILADELPHIA, PA.- The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society has announced the theme of the 2023 Philadelphia Flower Show: "The Garden Electric." This exciting and vibrant new show will be held March 4 - 12 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, a return indoors after 2 years of being held outdoors in Philadelphia’s FDR Park. Tickets will be on sale starting October 3, 2022 at the Show’s lowest and best price for a limited time only.

That spark of joy that comes while giving or receiving flowers — this is the moment captured by “The Garden Electric.” From the dazzling array of colors, unique shapes and textures, and rich fragrances of gorgeous floral displays and gardens come feelings of excitement and celebration. This year’s theme brings the electrifying presence of today’s most dynamic designers of floral arrangements, lush gardens, and landscapes to visitors from around the world.

PHS worked closely with The City of Philadelphia in 2021 and 2022 to keep health and safety paramount to the Flower Show experience, leading to the Show’s transition to an outdoor venue at South Philadelphia’s FDR Park for the first time in its 190+year history.

After much consideration of the current pandemic climate, ongoing conversations with City officials, and hearing valuable feedback from Flower Show attendees, PHS is thrilled to bring the Flower Show back to the Pennsylvania Convention Center in 2023, from March 4 - 12, 2023. This year’s Show celebrates the start of spring and invites guests to experience all the spectacular and decadent floral displays that the award-winning Flower Show is known for.

“This year’s theme, ‘The Garden Electric,’ is meant to encompass the feeling of magic, celebration, and awe we get when we encounter gorgeous flowers and gardens. We are creating a truly immersive experience for guests centered on bold, eccentric, vibrant color pairings, and an element of surprise that will ignite a sense of wonder and excitement in our guests” said PHS’s Director of Design, Seth Pearsoll.

Apart from the 2021 and 2022 Flower Shows, the Pennsylvania Convention Center has been the indoor home of the Philadelphia Flower Show since 1996, and serves more than 31 million visitors annually, from 120 cities nationwide. PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) has announced the location, dates, and theme for its highly anticipated 2022 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show. “In Full Bloom” will take place in South Philadelphia’s Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park (FDR Park) from Saturday, June 11 through Sunday, June 19, 2022.

As the world evolves, the inherent beauty in nature restores us. One’s garden provides a place for healing and connection. The 2022 Philadelphia Flower Show, “In Full Bloom,” welcomes all as we journey to explore the restorative and healing power of nature and plants, while experiencing all that gardening offers to improve our lives. This year’s theme connotes good health, a positive well-being, and a passion for life that culminates in a gorgeous and colorful spectacle.

Guests will encounter outdoor gardens at the peak of seasonal perfection and beauty that will inspire everyone to plan for a better tomorrow.

In its second year hosting The Flower Show at FDR Park, PHS plans upgrades and enhancements based on feedback from guests, staff, and stakeholders. Guests will find improvements to several areas of the Show in order to deliver a high-quality customer experience, including parking, transportation, ticketing, and design.

FDR Park serves as the ideal location for the outdoor 2022 Flower Show. A registered historical district designed by famed landscape architects, the Olmsted Brothers in the early 20th century, FDR Park features impressive landscapes and architecture with walkable pathways, majestic trees, and breathtaking views. FDR Park is an inspiring venue that contributes to the splendor that the Flower Show is known for, while also being accessible by mass transit and car.

The decision to produce the 2022 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show outdoors was made to accommodate the continuing challenges and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. FDR Park’s spacious 15-acre footprint allows for social distancing and the associated health benefits of being outside. Public safety is a critical component for the upcoming Show, and adherence to recommendations from City/State health officials is paramount to Show planning. PHS will continue to work closely with health officials leading up to the Show with updated guidance available online.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, American Airlines, And Philadelphia International Airport Plan Special Welcome For ‘World Meeting’ Guests

            PHILADELPHIA (September 2015) – Visitors coming through Philadelphia International Airport on Monday, September 21, will receive a special welcome courtesy of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, American Airlines, and Philadelphia’s Division of Aviation.

            As they pass through the Terminal B-C Baggage Claim area from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., visitors will be presented with carnations and walking-tour maps of the city’s public gardens. The distribution will be near the PHS/PHL Welcome Garden in Baggage Claim.

            The floral giveaway is intended as a warm welcome to visitors arriving in the city for the World Meeting of Families and the visit of Pope Francis. An estimated 1.5 million visitors are expected to come to Philadelphia for the Pope’s appearances on September 26 and 27. More than 14,000 travelers are expected to arrive at the airport each day during the week leading up to the Pope’s visit.

            “We look forward to welcoming the many visitors from all over the world who will be coming through our Airport for the World Meeting of Families and the visit by Pope Francis. Providing our guests with flowers creates a positive impression and adds a thoughtful touch to their arrival in our city,” said Airport CEO Mark Gale. “I want to thank the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for participating in our hospitality efforts during this special time.”

The Philadelphia Flower Show will "Celebrate the Movies" this year with displays that interpret themes and characters from Disney and Disney Pixar films.

"We want to transport viewers and inspire them to dream big," Pennsylvania Horticultural Society president Drew Becher said at the show's kickoff event Thursday, at the Ritz East theater in Old City before an audience of enthusiastic supporters, exhibitors, and volunteers.

PHS produces the annual show, which dates to 1829 and this year runs from Feb. 28 through March 9 at the Convention Center.
The range of films chosen for floral and landscape interpretation is vast, from Pirates of the Caribbean to Winnie the Pooh. And yes, there will be princesses.

One exhibitor has chosen Frozen, the cultural phenom and the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, whose songs, costumes, and royal characters are the stuff of obsession for millions of little girls. Another exhibit will feature all 11 Disney princesses, from Snow White to Tiana.

Becher and others expressed hope that Disney's broad appeal, and the magic of the movies, will attract more young people and families, and help revive the tradition of children going to the Flower Show with their parents and grandparents.

"Everyone loves the movies, and everyone loves Disney, young and old, men and women. The appeal is broad," said Ron Mulray, owner of the Philadelphia Flower Co. in the Far Northeast, who exhibits at the show with the American Institute of Floral Designers.

The 2015 production will highlight four international garden designers, from Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia - and some actual movie figures, including Pam Grier, the 1970s star of Foxy Brown and other blaxploitation films.

Dan Aykroyd, of Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers, and many other classics, and Ethan Wayne, son of John and an actor in his own right, will be on hand, too. The former will be hawking his additive-free vodka, the latter a bourbon called "Duke."

In an interview, Becher described the relationship between PHS and Disney as "a partnership, not a sponsorship." It came about through PHS's long-standing association with 6ABC, which is owned by the Walt Disney Co. The station does a show every year at the Flower Show preview party and participates in other projects with PHS.

Thursday's event featured a red carpet with popping paparazzi flashes, free popcorn, and bottles of a new hard cider created just for the show; a large, sequined Liza Minnelli impersonator known as Mimi Imfurst; and several stunning dresses from Gene London's 60,000-piece collection of Hollywood costumes.

London, now 83 and living in Reading, starred in the children's TV show Cartoon Corners General Store from 1959 to 1977. He'll bring more than 50 costumes from his collection to the Flower Show.

As for the show's flora, there will be masses of cut flowers and plants, palm trees and junipers, horticultural displays, competitions, special events, and workshops. The entrance garden promises to recall the interiors of 1920s movie palaces.

Hopes are high for the 2015 show, which, like the others, raises money for PHS programs such as City Harvest, through which community gardeners donate their fresh produce to food cupboards.

The 2014 show, called "ARTiculture," drew 230,000 visitors, slightly more than the 2013 British-themed show, which - at 225,000 - was the lowest attendance since 2001, despite the show's being open an extra day.
