While the tool is incredibly convenient, there are a few operational details frequent flyers should keep in mind before relying on it completely:

• No Extra Fees: The feature only looks for eligible seats within your currently ticketed cabin that do not require an additional charge. For example, it won't automatically move you into an exit row if that normally incurs a fee.
• The 24-Hour Cutoff: The automated search actively monitors until 24 hours before your flight's departure. After that window, the tool turns off, and you’ll need to check the seat map manually as the flight approaches.
• The Priority Hierarchy: When a highly coveted seat opens up, requests are fulfilled based first on AAdvantage elite status level, and then by the time the request was originally submitted.
