Discover Puerto Rico Celebrates Five Years Of Unprecedented Tourism Growth

On the heels of a record-breaking year in travel and tourism for Puerto Rico, Discover Puerto Rico, the Island's official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) reflects on a groundbreaking five years of continued growth for Puerto Rico's tourism economy, following a powerful brand evolution for the Island that has placed data-backed strategies at the forefront of award-winning marketing efforts.

Since its inception in July 2018, Discover Puerto Rico has effectively created and implemented multi-channel marketing tactics and campaigns designed for the progression of the destination and DMO, to help advance its mission of bringing prosperity to Puerto Rico by positioning the Island as a premier destination for leisure, business, and event travel. From being named among Fast Company's "World's Most Innovative Companies" in 2023 to winning three Emmy Awards for its series "Sounds like Puerto Rico," and hosting superstar Jimmy Fallon on-Island for a show taping, the DMO has excelled in both its creativity and execution in its mission.

"Despite facing some of the most extreme challenges in recent history, including natural weather events and the COVID-19 pandemic, our team led the travel inspiration that resulted in record-breaking numbers through strategic practices alongside local stakeholders, that drove travelers to the Island when we needed it most," said Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico. "I'm beyond proud of our accomplishments and look forward to continuing our visitation growth and further solidifying our standing as a best-in-class Destination Marketing Organization."

Following a data-driven and agile approach to marketing, Discover Puerto Rico has propelled economic prosperity for the people of Puerto Rico through the tourism sector and elevated the Island on a global scale, including global marketing in Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Colombia, among others in addition to the U.S. In recent years, the Island has reported peaks in incoming travelers, record revenues and more local tourism employees than ever. Highlight statistics include:

Approximately $8.7 billion in revenue was generated by travel and tourism through June 2023, a 63% increase from 2018 highs. (Tourism Economics) More than 5.6 million passengers arrived at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in the last fiscal year, an 8% increase over FY 21-22. (Aerostar) The Island now employs the most individuals in travel and tourism related jobs ever, over 93,600, a 22% increase over the previous high in 2019. Employment in the leisure and hospitality sector in Puerto Rico has increased by 12.8% compared to pre-pandemic levels, while employment numbers in the U.S. remain 4% below when considering the same period. (Bureau of Labor Statistics) Breakthrough creative campaigns that elevate Puerto Rico's culture and diverse tourism offerings, paired with targeted media relations and thought leadership efforts, and award-winning content through owned channels, have driven massive results for the destination and the DMO. Among the most successful Discover Puerto Rico-led tactics, campaigns and more that led to these numbers include:

"Live Boricua" - Launched in May 2022, this innovative brand campaign is the manifestation of Discover Puerto Rico's focus on elevating local culture while underscoring values-based marketing. Live Boricua emphasizes diverse people and culture, with a distinction no other destination can claim: the word "Boricua," or a person born in Puerto Rico or of Puerto Rican descent. The campaign's insights, creative and assets showcase the Puerto Rican way of life – and were developed by Boricuas. The campaign encourages travelers to embrace the spirit, passion and cultural uniqueness of the Island's people. Live Boricua has generated over 515 million in media impressions from earned media tactics and nearly 1.5 million pageviews driven by paid media, with over 483,000 of those visitors engaging with multiple pages on the site. The campaign undergoes constant reviews to enhance content, messaging and stay true to the local spirit of the Boricua community, informed by locals themselves.

"Sunshine to Spare" - Discover Puerto Rico partnered with the Pantone Color Institute to create a first-of-its-kind color inspired by the hue of Puerto Rican sunlight, based on findings by Puerto Rican physicist, Hector J. Jimenez. The new color – Puerto Rico Sunshine – has taken on a life of its own, with collaborations alongside notable entities like ECOS Paint and designer Christian Cowan. It has also sparked an unprecedented pride in the local Boricua community, with a multitude of small businesses creating unique products – from jewelry to popsicles – inspired by the color sold, now through the Sunshine Shop on the Discover Puerto Rico website. Travelers can also partake in the new Sunshine Route – a curated map that showcases how visitors can experience Puerto Rico Sunshine via a road trip to destinations across the Island, exploring both activities and products as part of the program. To date, this multifaceted campaign has garnered 1 billion impressions.

Elevating DMO and Island Talent into New Spaces – The DMO has made strides in giving a platform to both on-Island talent and DMO executives. Among these, Discover Puerto Rico partnered with leading Chef, Mario Pagan and local rum brands at Food & Wine festivals in Aspen and Austin with the goal of highlighting what it means to Live Boricua and promoting Puerto Rico's strong gastronomy and rum culture. Additionally, Brad Dean (CEO) and Leah Chandler (CMO) represented the DMO in leading conferences across industries, including South by Southwest, BrandSmart 2023 and the Reuters Strategic Marketing Conference, speaking on Discover Puerto Rico's unique values-based marketing approach, a testament to the DMO's best-in-class standing.

Standout efforts in meetings and events further promote Puerto Rico as a leading destination in the MICE space. Discover Puerto Rico's enhanced promotional efforts on the mainland have led to record breaking group numbers and a strong roster of events hosted on-Island, including the first ever Spanish countdown of Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve for two consecutive years, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Backlash, the Women in Travel Summit as well as the leading Hispanic award-show Premios Juventud. The DMO has set the stage for upcoming events including the Society of American Travel Writers' (SATW) annual conference and the International Gay Lesbian Travel Summit (IGLTA) Global Convention.

The DMO remains focused on strategies that safeguard the destination in the future. From a robust Crisis Communication Playbook to an additional tool that creates strategies to implement in light of economic turmoil, the Economic Playbook, preparedness measures outside of the proactive marketing efforts to attract travelers are prevalent and further demonstrate this DMO's holistic approach.

With its evolved and solidified brand positioning five years in the making, the DMO will continue to build on recent successes, promoting Puerto Rico on a global scale through a values-based marketing approach that continues to elevate the Boricua experience, the Island's growing infrastructure and the value propositions that make the destination an exceptional option for visitors.

About Discover Puerto Rico:

Discover Puerto Rico is a private, not-for-profit Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) whose mission is to make Puerto Rico visible to the world as a premier travel destination. The DMO brings prosperity to the people of Puerto Rico by collaboratively promoting the Island's diversity and uniqueness for leisure and business travel, and events. Dominica Named 'Best Destination To Unwind' In Lonely Planet's Best In Travel 2023

Global travel authority Lonely Planet has announced its 'Best in Travel' list for 2023 with Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-EEK-a) ranking as one of the top destinations to unwind. This is the first time Dominica has been honored as a top travel destination in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel collection. This year marks the 18th annual collection of the world's hottest destinations, and the must-have travel experiences for the year ahead. Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2023 recommends 30 must-visit locations around food, journeying, connection, learning and unwinding.

"We are incredibly honored to be considered as one of the top destinations to unwind by Lonely Planet's Best in Travel," said Colin Piper, Discover Dominica Authority's CEO/Director of Tourism. "This recognition is a true testament to our beautiful island and the growth in tourism we've experienced in recent years. To be recognized by such a prestigious publication as one of the top destinations to unwind solidifies our stance in maintaining the island's natural environment while still creating authentic experiences for travelers, whether seeking adventure or relaxation."

Each year, Lonely Planet's Best in Travel lists start with nominations from Lonely Planet's vast community of staff, writers, bloggers, publishing partners and more. The nominations are then whittled down by their panel of travel experts to just 30 destinations. Each is chosen for its topicality, unique experiences, 'wow' factor and its ongoing commitment to sustainability, community and diversity.

"Celebrated and recognized for its natural attractions, Dominica is often confused with the Dominican Republic, but we don't expect that to happen for much longer," said Tom Hall, Vice President of Lonely Planet. "2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year to get out and explore. With much of the world firmly on the road to recovery, travelers are looking for different locations and experiences, and we know Dominica will not disappoint."

Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2023 offers a comprehensive set of itineraries aimed at helping travelers to explore the world – while following along with some seriously knowledgeable locally-based experts along the way. Kickstart your Healthy New Year's Resolutions on a Dominican Republic Fitness Getaway #GoDomRep

From nature trekking to yoga retreats; vacationing in Dominican Republic will get your heart pumping

- Dominican Republic's all-inclusive resorts and world-class, white-sand beaches beckon travelers
from all over the globe for rest and relaxation. But with the new year calling – and new fitness
resolutions for 2017 – travelers should consider jetting to Dominican Republic for a fitness or
wellness getaway. From outdoor activities and wellness retreats to luxurious hotel gyms, there
are exercise options for every type of fitness getaway this winter.

"Dominican Republic's wide range of travel options and activities may surprise travelers. Our country
is so versatile, not only are we the premier destination for beach vacations, but we have the natural
playground and high-quality service perfect for a fitness trip," said Magaly Toribio, marketing advisor
for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. "There are so many exciting attractions to explore, you
will stay active no matter where your trip takes you."

Home to both the highest and lowest points above sea level in the Caribbean, the boundless array
of outdoor activities will keep your muscles moving. For travelers looking for something less rigorous,
yoga classes can be found in tucked-away bungalows. With so much to keep you moving on a
wellness getaway in Dominican Republic, you can save the R&R for home.

Hiking Up a Sweat
Dominican Republic's lush greenery and impressive mountain views can't be found in any gym, so
skip the treadmill and opt for a nature walk or hike. The country's most rigorous hike, Pico Duarte,
located in the central part of the county, is the highest peak in the Caribbean. Reaching an elevation
of 10,125 feet, travelers can embark on a two-, three- or four-day trek to the top that is sure to
challenge people of all fitness levels. The hike offers views of varying landscapes from tropical
 trees to cloud forests.
Another popular hike is through the Ébano Verde Scientific Reserve, which is also located in the
central area of Constanza. Hiking through the stunning Ébano Verde Scientific Reserve, which is
also used for environmental research, is more than just a cardio workout; it will keep your mind
active with access to spotting 600 different species of flowers and plants and more than 100
different types of birds. The town of Constanza also recently added a bicycling route that showcases
local plantations and educates visitors on the growth of local crops. So, whether you travel on foot
or bike, Constanza is worth the stop.

After a hike, visit the Monument of the Pyramids in Constanza, an ecological and tourism destination
located at an elevation of 7,217 feet in Valle Nuevo National Park. The Constanza area is bordered by
four national parks, so there's also plenty of wide-open space for pitching a tent and spending a
night under the stars. Since Constanza is a mountainous region, its naturally cool temperatures
offer brisk sleeping weather perfect for camping.

Hotel Gyms That Carry Their Weight
Dominican Republic's high-quality hotels cater to a traveler's every need, so it's no surprise that
hotels are equipped with impressive, full-service gyms. Having access to a gym in your hotel
means there's no excuse for leaving those running shoes at home. What's more – many resorts
offer group exercise programs so travelers don't have to feel the guilt of missing their morning
exercise class. Plenty of the all-inclusive resorts provide group fitness classes like kickboxing, boot
camp or group cardio sessions on the beach.

It's also common for popular fitness experts to bring their classes to hotels so vacationers can try a
new and exciting fitness class on their trip. Les Mills, the world's largest provider of movement-to-music
fitness, offers group classes at one of Punta Cana's newest all-inclusives. Another trendy workout
experience, FloYo, the practice of yoga on floating paddleboards, has made its way to a Dominican
Republic hotel, providing travelers no shortage of new and exciting exercise classes.
Still looking for more at your hotel? Try going for a run along the beach. Dominican Republic's
white-sand coastline goes on for nearly 1,000 miles, which means there's more than enough
beachline for a morning run.

Exercising Your Mind on a Wellness Retreat
A rising travel trend, wellness retreats offer travelers a chance to forget about the busyness back
home and focus on exercising their mind, body and soul. Yoga retreats can be found throughout
the country, but are especially popular in the lush ecotourism hotspot of Samaná. The area's
breathtaking landscape, complete with waterfalls, mountains and mangroves, provides the
perfect balance of nature and tranquility for a yoga retreat. Travelers can also opt for a yoga
class on the beach to unwind. Sometimes, taking a deep breath is just what the doctor ordered.
Classes and retreats welcome yogis of all levels and practices, including acro, ashtanga,
ahtah, asan and more. Some wellness retreats even provide health professionals for a
complete wellness experience. There are also several meditation centers that offer more
wellness retreats to help with pain issues and/or stress management.
So whether you are searching for meditation, spirituality or strength training on your wellness
getaway, Dominican Republic has it all.

Diverse Culinary Delights Tempt Foodies In All Corners Of Dominican Republic #GoDomRep

Most visitors to Dominican Republic know the country for its white-sand beaches, crystal clear
turquoise waters and ample opportunities for relaxation and play at the waterfront. But Dominican
Republic is also a prime destination for foodies, offering varied, mouthwatering cuisine that includes
fresh seafood, savory meats and inventive dishes that promise to entice even the most
 particular palates.

"Our country offers more than just stunning views and water sports; it's also a gastronomical
hub with cuisine sure to please every taste," said Magaly Toribio, Marketing Advisor for the
Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. "Tourists will be in awe of the variety of unique,
flavorful dishes available in all corners of Dominican Republic. They are guaranteed to find
the perfect dish to suit their mood."

Fresh Seafood, Direct From the Source
One can't fully experience the best of Dominican Republic cuisine without sampling the
country's fresh, succulent seafood, caught daily by fishermen along the coasts.
On the country's north coast, visitors are invited to sample a fusion of domestic and international
flavors, thanks in part to the large number of international tourists and expats that flock to Puerto
Plata and surrounding cities for world-class surfing and water sports. Pulpo al ajillo—garlic
octopus—is a popular dish in the region, made with fresh octopus, onion, garlic, olive oil, lemon,
tomato, parsley and salt to taste. The dish is full of fresh ingredients and flavors that work
together in harmony for a delectable culinary experience.

The calm waters surrounding the southwest coast are home to many types of fish including the
cero mackerel, mahi-mahi and snapper. Lobster, shrimp and crab are also popular delicacies
found throughout the country. Seafood lovers won't want to miss succulent fresh-caught crab,
shrimp served in rich coconut sauce or steaming hot boiled lobster. Fried fish served with
traditional tostones—twice fried green plantains —is another popular dish found along the coasts.

Signature Dishes and Savory Meats and Treats
The most iconic dish in Dominican Republic is la bandera, meaning "the flag" in Spanish. This
quintessential Dominican dish is made with rice, beans, fried bananas and stewed meat such
as chicken, beef or pork. It comes served with a lettuce, tomato and cabbage salad and can easily
 be found throughout the country.
La bandera, the quintessential Dominican dish
Tirao, a type of stew, is made with roughly chopped vegetables and large chunks of meat over a fire.
There is no exact science to the art of the tirao—ingredients are not measured precisely but come
together to create a rich, flavorful meal. This dish is especially popular in the waterfront town of
San Pedro de Macorís, along with domplines, made with flour, butter, olive oil, water and salt to
taste. Domplines, though plain on their own, are brought to life when served with coconut or
 tomato sauce.

For carnivores, many coastal restaurants serve an array of fine meats. Cacerola de chivo, a dish
made with goat, spices and vegetables, is especially popular. Goat dishes can be found
throughout the country cooked in sauces that range from mild to spicy, but are most common
in the northwest province of Montecristi, an area well known for its goat recipes.

Yaniqueques, the Spanish-language interpretation of "Johnny Cakes," are ubiquitous at the
country's beaches. Yaniquques are made with flour, baking powder, oil, salt and water. The
mixture is kneaded and left to rest for an hour before being deep fried. The yaniqueque is one
of the most common foods sold by vendors dotted along beaches throughout coastal areas,
particularly on the northeast coast in the Samaná Peninsula. Samaná is also known for its
irresistible foods made with coconut—not only in desserts but also in rice, fish, sauces and meats.
Another coastal specialty is maicena de plátano—a paste made with bananas that are roasted
and then mashed to the consistency of cornmeal. Maicena de plátano is most commonly
produced near the southwest coastal city of Barahona and can have a unique flavor by
adding milk or cream.

Just west of Punta Cana on Dominican Republic's east coast, the town of Higüey is famous
for its dairy products, especially its famousqueso, a fresh, firm cheese that comes in the form
 of a dense, moist ball.

Located in Dominican Republic's mountain region, the areas of Constanza and Jarabacoa offer
a signature chicken and rabbit paellaPaellais a rice-based dish that's cooked in a large shallow
pan and is bursting with flavor.

Also popular in the cool mountainous climate is sancocho, a national hot soup consisting of
multiple varieties of meat and tubers—vegetables composed of starches or carbohydrates—
like yuca, plantains and pumpkin. Like many Dominican dishes, this soup is best served
alongside rice. For dessert, the mountain areas are known for wild berry and peach jam.

Want To Travel To Cuba? There Are Some Extra Rules You Need To Know.

Want to Travel to Cuba? There Are Some Extra Rules You Need to Know.
It's easy to get excited about Cuba, but many travelers may be unaware of just how prepared they need to be.
This isn't just grabbing extra sunscreen and bugspray for your tropical vacation — although, that's important — U.S.-to-Cuban travel carries with it the burden of being scrutinized at both ends of the journey thanks to governments whose relationship might be thawing, but is still less sunny than an afternoon in Havana.
The hoops to jump through may be only nominally more difficult than traditional international travel, but it's important to note that they are new and different hoops than even veteran international travelers might be used to. For newer and inexperienced travelers, the process could be daunting, but it doesn't necessarily have to be.
Tourism to Cuba is technically still illegal under U.S. law.
No, that is not a typo.
The new Cuban travel guidelines have 12 legal reasons an American citizen can enter Cuba, but general tourism is not one of them. If all you're desiring is a chance to sample Arroz con Pollo, artisanal rum and a fine cigar, you may start to book your trip and find yourself rebuffed.
On the other hand, the 12 legal reasons are objectively very general and broad. They are also objectively very subjective, and the burden of deciding who fits under those categories falls to the traveler alone. Is that scary in a way? Sure, because lying throughout the process is perjury and subject to penalty. However, when the categories include person-to-person educational travel, journalism and humanitarian projects, the hurdles to climb seem pretty low.
Want to head to Cuba? Head to social media and find a Cuban or multiple Cubans who are willing to teach you about the country while you are there. Meeting new people and seeing the top sites? That's probably the exact reason you want to go. Cuba even has companies that set this sort of thing upprofessionally.
Or, in a social media age where everyone is a content creator, create your own blog or pitch other blogs on your trip to Cuba. "Freelance Journalism" is one of the subcategories of journalism according to the treasure, and that just means self-employed. One could quibble with being self-employed with zero income coming in, but everyone's got to start somewhere.
Humanitarian projects? My goodess, it's a gold mine. Even the most novice of Googlers should be able to find projects they could work on while down in Cuba. You can spend your entire trip on the beach if you spend some time cleaning it up. Want to take in the best cuisine? Spend an evening donating your time serving some if it to others. Is your Spanish rusty? You can get better at Spanish linking up teaching some English as a Second Language classes.
Responsible tourism is all the rage anyway.
There are other categories your travel may fit into, but none of them are heading down to a resort and enjoying yourself for a week and then returning to lie to customs. Plan ahead. Of course, the bonus for setting up some of these activities to legitimize your trip is that you'll make friends along the way. The next time you want to go to Cuba, visiting them is all you need to do!
Cuba also requires foreign travelers to have health insurance. If yours has lapsed for whatever reason, you can't go to Cuba. However, airlines are looking to bundle temporary health insurance right into tickets! Travel insurance companies also often bundle medical protection right into their plans. If someone isn't covered now, a host of ways to get covered already exist. It's just one more low hurdle to clear.
From there, the rules are just about over, but it's not quite as easy as hopping on a plane. U.S. cell phones aren't generally going to work in Cuba and neither are credit and debit cards linked to U.S. financial institutions. Internet access is hard to come by and Wi-Fi is next-to-nonexistent. No one who travels from the U.S. to Cuba will be as connected as when they left home. It's not just a culture shock, it could leave many unprepared.
Again, plan ahead.
An unlocked cellphone (even a disposable one) can become the home for a Cuban SIM card. American companies are increasing the availability of prepaid Cuba-ready cell phones as well. Still, those cell phones aren't going to have the data service Americans are accustomed to, and that means more preplanning your trip (no instant Yelp!) or depending on locals for advice—and fewer of them speak English compared to other tourism hotspots.
Cash is a must, and exchanging those dollars into Cuban pesos is a first-things-first sort of activity upon entering the island. Thankfully, Cuba recently got rid of a 10 percent tax on the exchange of American dollars, but being without money in a foreign, semi-friendly country is not likely on anyone's to-do list.
In all, no one should be deterred from visiting Cuba, but the trip to Havana is going to take a little more than a trip to Seattle or Cancun. Go, absolutely go as soon as you can, but it takes just a little extra ambition to make sure your trip of a lifetime doesn't turn into a major headache.

Treat Yourself To Spa Luxury In Dominican Republic #GoDomRep

Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism

The country's diverse natural beauty offers
the perfect setting for rejuvenation and restoration
Set against a backdrop of diverse natural beauty,
Dominican Republic is an idyllic destination
for travelers seeking world-class luxury and
spa offerings to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul.
Luxury takes many forms in the country,
providing rest and relaxation in unique
 settings that include
bustling cities, all-inclusive resorts and eco lodges tucked away in the tropical jungle.

"We are a country known for spectacular nature, but also for our warm people and hospitality," said
Magaly Toribio, marketing advisor for the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism. "When you bring
the two together, it's easy to see why Dominican Republic is home to some of the best destination
spas and luxury tourism in the Caribbean and the world."

In easy-to-access Punta Cana on Dominican Republic's east coast, spa aficionados don't have to
look far for pampering. All-inclusive hotels—perfect for families or budget-conscious travelers—are
dotted along the coast and throughout the region, many offering on-site spas. Most spas come fully
equipped with amenities such as whirlpools and saunas, with menus of familiar services including
facials, full-body treatments, massages and beauty services—perfect for brides or for guests visiting
for a special occasion. Punta Cana is also home to luxury boutique accommodations that offer unique
wraps and body scrubs that revitalize the skin using natural ingredients such as coffee or hot lava
stones. Boutique properties also may offer yoga lessons and healthy cooking classes to provide
a well-rounded wellness experience. For visitors that love to shop, nearby Bávaro is home to
familiar designer brands including Dolce & Gabbana, Swarovski and others.

La Romana, a favorite getaway among celebrities, is a chic coastal area replete with spa offerings
across the region. This ultimate luxury destination is an ideal spot for seaside pampering, with an
array of boutique and all-inclusive resorts offering spa services that run the gamut from facials to
intimate couples' massages. Need to stock up on your favorite top-of-the-line skin care products?

visit the nearby Casa de Campo marina to partake in world-class sport fishing and polo or tour a
cigar factory to learn about one of Dominican Republic's oldest traditions and finest exports.

Away from the bustling hubs of Punta Cana and La Romana, Barahona is an unspoiled tropical
Eden on the southwest coast of Dominican Republic. Nature-lovers will be in spa heaven after
booking a stay at one of the area's luxury eco hotels, offering organic and natural treatments for
guests in the tranquil setting of Barahona's coastal and wooded areas. From exfoliation to healing,
it's easy to find peace in both body and mind in Barahona.

Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic, offers relaxation from the comfort of a
cosmopolitan hotspot. Several hotels offer on-site spas and an assortment of amenities and
treatments, from massages to manicures and pedicures. After a relaxing spa day, take advantage
of your close proximity to everything the capital has to offer, from high-end shopping featuring
brands such as Armani Exchange, Massimo Dutti and Carolina Herrera, to the historic charm
of the Colonial City, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Relax in a local cigar club to experience
one of Dominican Republic's fine cigars with a rum drink in-hand.

In the northeast Samaná peninsula, visitors can rejuvenate by booking a massage or spa
treatment or connecting with their spiritual side in yoga and meditation classes, offered at

Destination Weddings Attract Couples To Dominican Republic #GoDomRep

Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism

With eight international airports throughout the country and nonstop
flights available on multiple airlines from the United States, Dominican
Republic offers an ease of access that makes it a natural selection for
couples planning a destination wedding. World-class properties offer
on-site, personal wedding planners to handle all of the day-of details,
making sure any wedding day is worry-free.

"Weddings in Dominican Republic are truly magical, offering couples a variety of settings to celebrate
the start of their lives together," said Magaly Toribio, marketing advisor for the Dominican Republic
Ministry of Tourism. "Our hotels, tour operators and wedding vendors are adept at anticipating the
needs of family travel groups, making Dominican Republic a wonderful destination for wedding groups
 both big and small."

What's your wedding style? Whether you've always pictured a sunset ceremony on the beach or
dreamed of a traditional wedding in a church that's rich with historic beauty, Dominican Republic
has something to fit every couple's personal taste and budget.

Old-World Charm: A destination wedding doesn't have to mean forfeiting the formality of a
traditional ceremony. Marry at the ornateCatedral Primada de America in the first city of the
new world, the Colonial City within Dominican Republic's capital of Santo Domingo. Cobblestone
streets harken back to the colonial days to create memories that will last a lifetime. Also in the
Colonial City, Iglesia de las Mercedes is a majestic church built more than 500 years ago that
provides the perfect backdrop for an elegant Catholic ceremony. You can also plan your nuptials
in Convento de los Dominicos, a 16th-century building, or book your big day at the Museo de
las Casas Reales, a museum that once served as the Spanish governor's royal court. For historic
charm outside of the capital, Catholic couples can say "I do" in Altos de Chavón, a replica
of a 16th-century Mediterranean village in the La Romana province. You'll walk down the aisle in
a ceremony in St. Stanislaus Church while overlooking the Chavón River.

Natural Nuptials: Eco-conscious couples will find their own slice of paradise in Dominican Republic.
The Samaná Peninsula, known for lush, unspoiled nature and magnificent beaches, takes couples
off the beaten path and into one of Dominican Republic's hidden natural gems. Lovebirds can plan
a wedding in quiet Las Galeras, located at the tip of the peninsula and home to numerous small
hotels and bed & breakfasts—perfect for an intimate wedding or honeymoon escape. For couples
seeking a beachside city vibe, Las Terrenas delivers, offering a mix of distinctive restaurants and
bars alongside beautiful white sand beaches dotted with picturesque pastel wooden fishing boats.
After the wedding, escape to Los Haitises National Park, located just south of the Samaná
Peninsula. Enjoy a boat tour of the mangroves and find yourself surrounded by countless species
of birds, plants and mammals. On Dominican Republic's north coast, thePuerto Plata province also
offers unique natural beauty of its very own, set against a backdrop of mountains and miles of
coastline. The area is a hub for thrill-seekers, and adventurous couples will fall in love all over
again while climbing the 27 Waterfalls of Damajuagua and cascading back down by jumping off
cliffs or sliding down water chutes.

Seaside Sophistication: Find your fairytale all-inclusive in Punta Cana, which was named
the #1 destination in the Caribbean in 2016 by the TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards.
Azure waters and powder-white beaches bring weddings here to life, with hotels offering packages
designed to fit all tastes and budgets. Wedding planners help couples work within their budgets to
map out every detail, including day-of itineraries, flowers, menus and even hair and makeup.
Beyond Punta Cana, couples flock to La Romana for chic accommodations along the water.
Casa de Campo is a favorite getaway among celebrities, and for good reason—the resort and
villa complex gives couples exclusive access to La Romana's marina, along with gourmet
restaurants, world-class golf courses and beautiful private beaches. Just off the coast, day
trips to Saona Island and Catalina Island offer secluded paradise for honeymooners and newlyweds.

Cosmopolitan Chic: Plan a stylish wedding in the vibrant capital city of Santo Domingo.
The JW Marriott Santo Domingo is located in the city's high-end shopping district. Work
with an entire team of wedding specialists for a memorable and luxurious day at this trendy
destination, where you and your guests will also be able to take advantage of close proximity to
the commercial district, the colonial zone and the airport. Hotel el Embajador is also conveniently
located in the capital, just a stone's throw away from museums, shops and restaurants. Couples
can work with an on-site planner to map out every detail of their special day, planning a ceremony
or reception in the hotel's elegant indoor or outdoor spaces. In Santo Domingo's historic
Colonial City, the Hostal Nicolas de Ovando offers a romantic ambiance for both weddings and
honeymoons. Once the home of Santo Domingo's founder, the hotel dates back to 1502 and
provides the perfect combination of history, charm and upscale amenities.

There's no need for cold feet when planning your dream wedding in Dominican Republic.
