Travel + Leisure readers have voted Viking® (www.viking.com) a “World’s Best” for rivers, oceans and expeditions in the 2025 World’s Best Awards, which were announced today. Viking was once again named #1 for Expeditions, a position it has maintained since its first year of eligibility in that category, and was voted one of the World’s Best river and ocean lines. Viking is also rated #1 for Rivers, #1 for Oceans and #1 for Expeditions by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler. No other travel company has simultaneously received such honors by both publications.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards—an annual celebration of excellence across the travel industry. Since 1995, Travel + Leisure, the largest travel magazine brand in the U.S., has invited its discerning readers to cast their vote for the World’s Best in cruising with consideration in the following categories: cabins/facilities, food, service, itineraries/destinations, excursions/activities and overall value.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire Viking family around the world,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking. “From the beginning, we have chosen to do things differently. We remain committed to that philosophy as we continue to welcome more curious travelers to experience the Viking way of exploration around the world.”
The recognition continues to build on Viking’s accolades. In addition to awards from Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler, Viking was named Best Luxury Line, Best Line for Couples and Best Line in the Mediterranean in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Cruise Lines ranking for the fourth consecutive year. Viking’s ocean ships have also been rated and “Recommended” as part of the Forbes Travel Guide 2024 Star Awards, an annual independent evaluation for luxury travel brands. Additionally, Cruise Critic honored Viking with seven awards across the Luxury (Ocean), River and Expedition categories 2024 Best in Cruise Awards.

A New Legacy Begins For Regent Seven Seas Cruises® With First Look Inside Seven Seas Prestige™
Regent Seven Seas Cruises®, the world’s leading ultra luxury cruise line, has unveiled detailed renderings and a spectacular “fly-through” video of select public spaces on board Seven Seas Prestige™. The new images and video of the Starlight Atrium and Galileo’s Bar hint at the exquisite elegance and comfort that will be found on board Seven Seas Prestige, scheduled to launch in late 2026, beginning a new legacy for all-inclusive, ultra luxury cruising.
Drawing on inspiration ranging from classical and Renaissance architecture, both the Starlight Atrium and Galileo’s Bar were designed by Studio DADO, who were also the creative drive behind the cruise line’s highly successful Explorer-Class ships. Now, with Seven Seas Prestige, the DADO team has captured the essence of The Most Inclusive Luxury Experience®, building on Regent’s rich heritage which will inspire guests to embrace each moment with awe and delight.
“With Seven Seas Prestige being Regent’s first new ship class in 10 years, we are delighted to share these first glimpses of this incredible vessel,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “Hosting only 822 guests on a ship that could fit hundreds more means we will offer Heartfelt Hospitality in Unrivaled Space at Sea like never before. I truly cannot wait for this magnificent ship to join The World’s Most Luxurious Fleet and the new legacy of all-inclusive, ultra luxury cruising that begins with it.”
The visuals offer a peak into what’s in store for future reveals with the introduction of brand-new accommodation categories - including a reimagination of the palatial Regent Suite - plus new dining experiences, coming soon.
Starlight Atrium
Embodying a blend of old-world elegance and modern sophistication, the Starlight Atrium recalls an era of quality craftmanship and style, illuminated by a glass-enclosed ceiling that allows sunlight and starlight to grace the space.
“The Starlight Atrium is where the grandeur of Renaissance architecture meets modern luxury, creating a space that feels both timeless and contemporary,” said Yohandel Ruiz, Founding Partner, Studio DADO. “Our goal was to get people to stop in their tracks, awe-struck by its sheer scale and magnificence.”
Not only a place for quiet contemplation while enjoying a glass of Champagne, or practical matters with essential guest services, the Starlight Atrium’s generous space connects multiple guest amenities across decks 4 & 5, such as Galileo’s Bar, the Casino, Prestige Lounge, Meridian Lounge, Coffee Connection, concierge desk and reception.
The two-story Starlight Atrium features twin spiral staircases, beginning on deck 4, which combine on deck 5 and gracefully lead all the way up to deck 11.
On deck 5, alcoves with sculptural furniture and curated art offer breathtaking ocean views—the perfect place to watch the sun rise or slip beyond the horizon at the end of a perfect day. Designed with a neutral palette of dusty rose, taupe, and cream, combined with embellished trims and fringed pillows, the alcoves harken back to old-world detailing.
The reception area, also on deck 5, features pleated leather panels and a light fixture crafted from handblown glass and ceramic pearls. From the lifts, looking back towards Galileo’s Bar, walls are framed with paneling and artwork, creating a traditional yet modern aesthetic.
Galileo’s Bar
Named in a nod to Regent’s beloved Seven Seas Navigator® which will soon leave the fleet, Galileo’s Bar is strategically placed to serve both the Prestige Lounge and adjacent casino. The bar’s ceiling is a canvas displaying a contemporary masterpiece styled like an oil painting, framed by fretted metal detailing.
The base of the bar features fluted elements, and the bold, striped floor highlights the bar’s footprint, creating a focal point for the Starlight Atrium; it is the place for guests to indulge in complimentary premium beverages that come as standard with a Regent sailing.
From the bar, views of the spiral staircases extend back into the Starlight Atrium on both port and starboard sides. The walls, clad in a limestone texture, are adorned with sconces designed to resemble jewelry, adding a touch of glamour.

Seabourn Pursuit To Visit Warm-Weather Destinations During First-Ever Expedition Season To South Pacific, Kimberley Region In 2024
Seabourn, a leader in ultra-luxury voyages and expedition travel, will embark on its first-ever expedition voyages to the South Pacific and the Kimberley region in 2024 on board its newest ultra-luxury expedition ship, Seabourn Pursuit. Between March and October 2024, the ship will journey across the Pacific and visit a number of islands and warm-weather destinations rich in culture, history and natural beauty, with abundant wildlife. The exciting schedule includes stops at Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Guam, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and Fiji, as well as line's first expedition voyages to the Kimberley region in northern Australia.
"I am so excited about these voyages because Seabourn Pursuit allows us to take our guests to completely different and truly fascinating parts of the world, where one can celebrate a combination of natural beauty and human culture," said Natalya Leahy, president of Seabourn. "Our warm-weather expeditions in the South Pacific and Kimberley region will offer guests the opportunities to dive and snorkel over incredible intact coral reefs, visit friendly locals and explore historic sites. And, of course, guests will experience these bucket-list destinations in the comfort of our signature Seabourn ultra-luxury offerings and service."
Seabourn Pursuit will offer a number of expedition experiences designed to immerse guests in the beauty and wonders of the destinations. Included expedition offerings such as Zodiac cruising, nature walks and hikes, scuba diving, and snorkeling will be available on most itineraries. In addition, the ship will offer optional expeditions with dives on two custom-built luxury submersibles and kayaking at select destinations. Led by a world-class expedition team of 24 experts, including scientists, scholars, naturalists, and more, guests will receive the highest level of knowledge and guidance throughout their Seabourn expedition voyage.
Seabourn Pursuit's 2024 South Pacific and Kimberley itineraries include:
The South Pacific from Chile to Melanesia - In March and April 2024 and again in September and October 2024, Seabourn Pursuit will sail between the islands of the South Pacific and the coast of Chile via a series of voyages of 14, 17, and 20 days, with combination voyages of up to 37 days also available. Voyage itineraries will offer guests a wealth of opportunities for adventure. Season highlights include:
Exploring the remote Juan Fernandez Archipelago off the coast of Chile, where dramatic and rocky coastlines harbor pink-footed shearwaters and fur seals
Spending time at Easter Island with travel to the quarry where volcanic rock was excavated to carve the haunting moai that look longingly from the island's perimeter
Visiting the remote and varied islands of the Pitcairn group across hundreds of miles of ocean; visiting Marae Taputapuatea on Ra'iatea Island in French Polynesia, an incredible destination once considered the most important religious site in the region
Arriving ashore at the remote Yasawa Islands of Fiji to explore the incredible limestone formations of the Sawa-I-Lau Caves. Mysterious Ambrym Island and Pentecost Island of Vanuatu will also be featured for their incredible cultural experiences
Complimentary expedition experiences include Zodiac cruising, scuba diving, snorkeling, and nature walks and hikes. Optional kayaking and submersible excursions will be available
Papua New Guinea & West Papua, Indonesia - Seabourn Pursuit will operate a series of 15-day voyages to Papua New Guinea and West Papua, Indonesia in May and June and again in August and September 2024, with combination voyages up to 35 days also available. Some of the world's most incredible snorkeling and diving wait at protected reefs off the mainland and islands surrounding Papua New Guinea and West Papua. Season highlights include:
Warm welcomes from the village of Watam near the Ramu River, where traditional homes constructed of sago palm line the banks
Front row seats for the sacred Baining Fire Dance at Rabaul under an active volcano on the island of New Britain
Mixing with locals in the matrilineal society of the Trobriand Islands, where yams are a form of currency.
A rare visit to the villages of the Asmat, where culture has remained relatively unchanged for generations, amid rivers that swell with the rising tide
Exploration of the Misool, Wayag, and Gam Islands, part of Raja Ampat ("Four Kings") of Indonesia, characterized by limestone rock formations called karsts that rise from the sea, and some of the most bio-diverse tropical waters on the planet.
Complimentary expedition experiences include Zodiac cruising, scuba diving, snorkeling, and nature walks and hikes. Optional kayaking and submersible excursions will be available.
The Kimberley - Seabourn Pursuit will offer six 10-day voyages in the Kimberley region between Broome and Darwin in June, July and August 2024. With ancient, otherworldly landscapes, wildlife from short-eared rock-wallabies to flying foxes, and Aboriginal culture that traces back some 50,000 years, the Kimberley is an experience all its own in northernmost Western Australia. Season highlights include:
Visits to incredibly remote settings such as the Bungle Bungles, El Questro National Park, and the Ord River
Exploration of King George Falls, dual waterfalls and the highest in Western Australia, and miles-long Zodiac rides through rivers and sandstone gorges crowded with incredible geological formations
Talbot Bay, offering once-in-a-lifetime viewing of the Horizontal Waterfalls, while incredible "boab" trees will provide backdrops for photography and local stories.
Helicopter viewing of the Hunter River and the Kimberley en route to the triple falls of Mitchell Plateau.
Seabourn Pursuit entered service on August 12, 2023, and offers the same ultra-luxury small ship experience that travelers have come to expect from Seabourn, enhanced by world-class equipment that allows the line to explore the furthest corners of the world. Like its sister ship, Seabourn Venture, the ship is designed and built for diverse environments to PC6 Polar Class standards and will include a plethora of modern hardware and technology that will extend the ships global deployment and capabilities. Seabourn Pursuit has close to 30,000 square feet of deck space and special touches at every turn. Those include indoor and outdoor guest areas with nearly 270-degree views, and a 4K GSS Cineflex Camera mounted on the mast of the Constellation Lounge capable of broadcasting imagery from miles ahead on monitors located throughout the ship.

Viking Announces Completion Of First PCR Laboratory At Sea On The Viking Star
Viking® (www.viking.com) announced today that it has completed installation of the first full-scale PCR laboratory at sea. This new onboard facility – an industry first – allows for unprecedented testing capacity in the cruise industry, enabling Viking to conduct PCR testing of all crew members and guests with a non-invasive saliva test. The laboratory has enough capacity for daily testing of every crew member and guest, which provides flexibility to respond to COVID-19 prevalence levels around the world.
This first laboratory has been installed on Viking Star, the company's award-winning 930-guest ocean vessel; it will undergo a series of extensive tests to ensure the procedures and protocols that have been designed are fully effective.
The Viking Star.
"We have been working on this for a number of months, and today is important as it moves us one step closer to operating cruises again, without compromising the safety of our guests and crew. The recently announced CDC guidelines are clearly aligned with our public health research, and we welcome the agency's push toward testing, as we believe this is the only way to safely operate. In our view, continuous PCR testing, along with our extensive onboard hygiene protocols, will lead to making Viking ships a safe place to get away to and explore the world," said Matt Grimes, Vice President of Maritime Operations for Viking.
Viking will be demonstrating the PCR laboratory, as well as new design and operating procedures, when the Viking Star comes to Oslo, Norway in mid-November.

Regent Claims New Record For Most Bookings In A Single Day
Regent Seven Seas Cruises has said it achieved the largest booking day in the cruise line’s 28-year history with the launch of its 2022-2023 Voyage Collection when sales opened on October 21, 2020, according to a press release.
Citing strong pent-up demand for cruising, reservations surpassed Regent’s previous booking day record, set in April 2018 with the launch of Seven Seas Splendor’s inaugural season, by nearly 40 percent, the company said.
The 2022-2023 Voyage Collection launch also saw an over 100% increase in bookings from when the line’s 2021-2022 Voyage Collection went on sale in August 2019.
The line had surpassed the total number of bookings for the previous year’s launch by 10:00am EST.
“The staggering response to our 2022-2023 Voyage Collection demonstrates the incredible future demand for the unrivaled Regent experience. Luxury travelers simply cannot wait to get back on the oceans to see the world again, while enjoying impeccable, personalized service on luxurious and spacious ships,” said Jason Montague, president and chief executive officer, Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “Our loyal guests wasted no time in securing their perfect itinerary and suite with last year’s Voyage Collection launch day total eclipsed after only 90 minutes of being on sale.”

Viking Cruise Line Is Building Two Cutting-Edge Ships — And One Is Headed For The Great Lakes
By LORI RACKL CHICAGO TRIBUNE

A big player in the cruise industry is diving into the Great Lakes market.
Switzerland-based Viking, which built its name plying the rivers of Europe, is extending its reach into North America in 2022 with voyages exploring the largest surface of fresh water in the world.
The announcement was made Wednesday night at an event in Beverly Hills, California, where Viking founder and chairman Torstein Hagen rolled out details about the cruise line’s upcoming “expedition” voyages. These include trips to far-flung locales like Antarctica and the Arctic, as previously reported, as well as newly revealed itineraries in the closer-to-home Great Lakes — an increasingly popular cruise destination.
“We began as Viking River Cruises; then we evolved into Viking Cruises with the addition of ocean cruises,” Hagen said in a written statement announcing the news. “Today we stand singularly as Viking, offering destination-focused voyages on more than 20 rivers, five oceans and five Great Lakes, visiting 403 ports in 95 countries and on all seven continents.”
The company is in the process of building two ships specifically tailored to expedition-style cruising.

The Hangar area functions as a marina within the ship, where passengers can board and disembark smaller excursion boats. (Viking)
The first vessel, Viking Octantis, is scheduled to make its maiden voyage in January 2022. It will be assigned to the Great Lakes and Antarctica. Its sister ship, Viking Polaris, is slated to come on board later that year, in August. Polaris will sail in the waters around Antarctica and the Arctic.
Both ships have capacity to hold 378 guests in 189 staterooms. The vessels are designed to be small and nimble enough to navigate remote polar areas and the St. Lawrence River, but big enough to handle potentially rough waters and not sacrifice passenger comfort.

All of the cabins come with a Nordic balcony, where the top portion of the floor-to-ceiling glass wall can be lowered to elbow level. The cabin shown here is a 322-square-foot Nordic Junior Suite. (Viking)
The cruise line’s initial Great Lakes offerings don’t include Chicago as a port of call. But most of the itineraries allow customers to tack on a two-night trip in the city as a pre- or post-cruise option for an additional charge.
Viking has four types of Great Lakes cruises in 2022:
- Undiscovered Great Lakes is an eight-day voyage from Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Milwaukee, with a passage between Lake Superior and Lake Huron via the Soo Locks. Passengers visit the Apostle Islands in Wisconsin and Michigan’s car-free Mackinac Island, among other stops. Trips run between May and September. Pricing starts at $6,695 per person.
- Great Lakes Explorer travels from Milwaukee to Thunder Bay over eight days. It has some of the same ports as Undiscovered Great Lakes. But this one also spends time in Canada’s Georgian Bay, often referred to as the sixth Great Lake, where passengers can opt to kayak around some of the bay’s 30,000-plus islands. Sailing dates between May and September; starting at $6,495.
- Niagara & the Great Lakes is another eight-day voyage, this one hitting Niagara Falls en route between Toronto and Milwaukee. Other stops include Detroit and Michigan’s Sleeping Bear Dunes. It’s offered in April, May, June, July and September with prices from $5,995.
- The longest voyage of the bunch, Canadian Discovery is a 13-day excursion that starts in New York and meanders along Canada’s southeast coast to the St. Lawrence River. Passengers explore the marine-life rich Saguenay Fjord and can test their luck salmon fishing in Quebec’s Moisie River. This trip ventures into only one of the Great Lakes: Lake Ontario, where the voyage caps off in Canada’s biggest city, Toronto. Sailing dates are in April and October, with a minimum price tag of $8,995.
Prices include shore excursions, meals, some alcoholic beverages, Wi-Fi and port fees.
The inaugural rates listed above are good through the end of February on 2022 and 2023 voyages. During that introductory booking period, Viking is throwing in free roundtrip airfare to and from major gateways in North America. Reservations can be made at viking.com/expeditions.
Unlike some expedition ships that are refurbished research vessels, Octantis and Polaris are being built with soaring windows to maximize views. A retractable glass dome covers an area with three different temperature pools. Each of the 665-foot-long ships has multiple dining venues, a spa and a fitness center.

The ship's auditorium is surrounded on three sides by floor-to-ceiling glass. The large bottom windows of the stage wall slide open for easy access to the terrace. (Viking)
Modern, Scandinavian-style staterooms range in size from a snug 222 square feet to the sprawling 1,223-square-foot owner’s suite with a large, private garden.
All of the cabins have king-size beds, heated bathroom floors and what’s called a Nordic balcony, where the top portion of the floor-to-ceiling glass wall can be lowered to elbow level to mimic a traditional balcony.
The expedition vessels, which are under construction in Norway, feature an enclosed marina dubbed The Hangar, where guests can board and disembark smaller, high-speed excursion boats from a stable surface protected from the elements.

In a glass-covered mezzanine above The Hangar, Viking’s team of “resident scientists” will be conducting environmental research during the voyages. Passengers can visit the lab to learn more about the work and even lend a hand.
For the Great Lakes trips, Viking has partnered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), whose scientists will join expeditions to study changes in the region’s weather, climate and ecosystems.
Each ship will be equipped with two submarines that can seat six guests for underwater exploration.

The ship's largest cabin is the owner's suite, measuring 1,223 square feet and featuring a spacious, private outdoor area. (Viking)
Seas can get rough in the polar regions — even in the Great Lakes. The Octantis’ and Polaris’ longer hulls, straight bows and what’s billed as state-of-the-art fin stabilizers are designed for smoother sailing. The company says U-tank stabilizers should decrease rolling by up to 50 percent when the ships are stationary.
Viking’s foray into expedition-style cruising marks the latest expansion for the fast-growing cruise line. In recent years, the proud “Downton Abbey” sponsor added small-ship ocean voyages to its lineup. The current fleet consists of 79 river and ocean vessels. Plans call for rolling out seven new river ships this year. Half a dozen ocean vessels are on order, with the option to add four more. That could bring Viking’s ocean fleet to 16 ships by 2027.
“We invented the concept of modern river cruising when we launched in 1997; then we reinvented ocean cruises and became the ‘World’s Best Ocean Cruise Line’ (Travel + Leisure magazine) in our first year of operation, as well as every year since then,” Hagen said in the press release. “Now, in creating ‘the thinking person’s expedition,’ we are perfecting polar expedition cruising, and we will usher in a new era of comfortable exploration in the heart of North America.”
Viking’s move into the Great Lakes is yet another sign that the drumbeat for cruising in the heart of North America is getting louder. Some customers like the idea of sticking closer to home as they age, while veteran cruisers are simply hungry for fresh destinations.
Operators that have been playing in this sandbox for years, such as Blount Small Ship Adventures, recently bulked up their brochures with additional trips, and lines that bailed on the area years ago are heading back. The French line Ponant returned last season, and German-based Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is debuting bilingual voyages in German and English aboard its new Hanseatic Inspiration later this year.

TRAVELORE DESTINATION REPORT: The Regent Seven Seas Navigator From New York To Montreal, An Experience That Harkens Back To The Days Of Old World Cruising Without The Formality
Regent Seven Seas is the most inclusive luxury cruise line including unlimited premium alcoholic beverages, round-trip air on domestic flights and business class on intercontinental flights, gratuities, gourmet dining, shore excursions, ground transfers, WiFi, spa access, health club, fitness classes, entertainment, enrichment lectures, and 24 hour room service.
The Regent Seven Seas Navigator with a capacity of 490 guests in spacious all suite accommodations was recently extensively refurbished in Brest, France. One of the most impressive facts about the ship is they sail with a 1 to 1.42 passenger to staff ratio including 52 chefs.
Evening entertainment on the ship was better than expected with full scale musical reviews by the talented entertainment crew, a five piece orchestra, a ventriloquist and Broadway star Jeri Sager.

| Prime 7 Steakhouse. |
We were thrilled to have 2 seatings at the Prime 7 Steakhouse on our voyage, the included but only reservation required restaurant on the ship. Depending on the category you book you are guaranteed at least one seating. We recommend going online a few weeks prior to your sailing when you are given notice to get the most preferable seating times.
The other exceptional dining venues on the ship include the Compass Rose, the ship's main dining room and La Veranda for buffet style breakfast and lunch. In the evening La Veranda becomes Sette Mari at La Veranda, a very good Italian restaurant. If you don't feel like dressing for dinner after a long day of touring your dinner will be beautifully presented in your suite, along with your preferred beverages. The pool grill for lunch and more casual evening dining is also a nice alternative. The barista at the Coffee Connection is also always available for specialty coffee drinks. One day she prepared an excellent dairy-free vanilla frappuccino.
For those on special diets be assured that the chefs will alter your meals as if you had a personal private chef. After making the kitchen staff aware of your specific needs you will have menus delivered to your suite the evening before for pre-ordering. I am pescatarian and my travel partner has a dairy allergy. We were most impressed with specially prepared alternative desserts and how all the restaurant servers made sure even breads served to my travel partner were dairy-free.
