Airlines are actively seeking out warmer weather escapes during the cold, miserable winter. Delta Air Lines particularly stands out, as it has just started 13 new and returning routes to the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. All began in time for Christmas getaways.
For obvious reasons, most airlines reduce flights on Christmas Day. Delta is no exception. However, these additional routes play an important role in its international flights increasing week-over-week. OAG data shows it has 14% more international flights on Christmas Day than on the previous Thursday, rising to 26% for short-haul non-US services.
Delta Has Just Started These 13 Routes
The SkyTeam carrier's international network has been examined using OAG data. This involved comparing all its routes available between January 1, 2024, to December 18, 2025, with what is on offer from December 19 to 28, 2025. This analysis identified the following 13 additions, all of which started on the same day. They include two destinations in US territories.
As usual with such things, most of the routes—nine of the 13—have seen Delta's frames before. With some exceptions, most ended in 2020 due to the myriad consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, including border closures.
The four routes that are brand-new to Delta's map are thus arguably more interesting. Of these, one—Atlanta to St. Vincent—has never had any scheduled flights by any airline, which isn't surprising. Moreover, Detroit to Liberia was last served by Northwest in 2002. Delta faces other carriers on the remaining two new airport pairs.

Atlanta's 1st Flight To St. Vincent
At 1,766 nautical miles (3,271 km) each way, St. Vincent becomes Delta's third-longest Caribbean route from Atlanta. Only Barbados and Grenada (which relaunched on December 20) cover more distance. It is Delta's first time in St. Vincent.
According to booking data, fewer than 3,000 people flew between Atlanta, Delta's top fortress hub, and the Caribbean island in the 12 months to October 2025. The market was absolutely tiny. It was the seventh-largest unserved Caribbean destination from the Georgia hub. Of course, it'll be easy to increase demand from nonstop flights and, hopefully, strong promotions.
Given the lack of local market, the daily frequency from the get-go is unusually bullish, especially when most of the 13 route additions are only served weekly. It is not helped by the route running daily through April 12, and weekly thereafter.
It will, of course, rely massively on connections across the US. However, half of the US traffic is to Greater New York City and Miami, which already have nonstop flights (but not on Delta). Like any very strong hub, it'll capture passengers flying from many dozens of airports and beyond, including multiple airports serving Greater NYC.
Only One Addition Is On A Regional Jet
Everyone knows that Austn has seen huge growth by Delta recently. The ever-popular Mexican beach destination of Los Cabos has now joined its map. Along with Cancun flights, which began on the same day, it is the first time Delta has had regular international service from Austin.
It is the third operator to Los Cabos. Between December 25 and 31, it coexists with American (six weekly 737-800) and Southwest (five weekly 737-700). Delta's daily frequency, albeit on an E175, will help with competitiveness and market share.

Delta’s First flight To Morocco Takes Off October 2025
Delta expands its African footprint with nonstop service from Atlanta to Morocco’s “Red City” and adds seasonal flights to Accra.
Delta is expanding its African network with new nonstop routes from Atlanta, including its first-ever service to Marrakech, Morocco*, starting Oct. 25. The airline is also adding seasonal service from Atlanta to Accra, Ghana, beginning Dec. 1, to meet peak winter demand. With these additions, Delta is making both destinations more accessible while bringing its renowned premium experience to more of Africa.
Since launching service to Africa in 2006, Delta has remained committed to connecting customers between the U.S. and the continent. Today, the airline operates nonstop flights to five African destinations year-round and has carried more than 7.5 million customers on these routes.
“Delta’s new service to Marrakech and added flights to Accra strengthen our presence in Africa, offering more opportunities for customers to enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta. “Whether discovering Morocco or reconnecting with loved ones in Ghana, these routes enhance our network while reinforcing Atlanta’s role as the world’s largest global hub.”
A new gateway to the magic of Marrakech
With its centuries-old traditions, vibrant souks and world-class luxury, Marrakech is a city that captivates the senses at every turn. As interest in Morocco increases, Delta’s new service—featuring one-stop connections from over 125 cities—opens the door to this UNESCO-listed destination like never before.
Customers can immerse themselves in the lively Medina of Marrakech, weaving through bustling markets and tranquil riads with sun-drenched courtyards. They can marvel at the intricate tilework of the Bahia Palace, feel the energy of Jemaa el-Fnaa Square and unwind with the soothing ritual of a hammam spa; each experience is a perfect blend of culture and relaxation, complemented by Morocco’s bold, aromatic cuisine. Just beyond the city, travelers can trek through the Atlas Mountains or escape to the serenity of a desert retreat.
Delta’s Atlanta-Marrakech flight, ATL-RAK, will operate three-times-weekly on a Boeing 767-400ER, featuring Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin. Delta One offers lie-flat seats, premium amenities and chef-curated meals, including a build-your-own ice cream sundae. Delta Premium Select provides a wider seat, deeper recline and an enhanced dining experience.
Now boarding: fast, free Wi-Fi on routes to West Africa
Delta is on a journey to bring fast, free Wi-Fi to its entire global fleet – connectivity at an unprecedented scale that remains unmatched in the industry. SkyMiles Members traveling to Morocco on Delta can look forward to reliable, streaming-quality connectivity from the time the boarding door closes to the moment the plane arrives at the gate, allowing them stay connected and entertained – just like they would at home, for free. Expansion to remaining international routes is well underway, with all additional routes to West Africa (Lagos, Dakar and Accra) expected to be available with fast, free Delta Sync Wi-Fi in the coming weeks - in addition to Marrakech when it begins service in October.
More Accra Service
With strong demand from U.S.-Africa travelers, Accra remains one of Delta’s most popular African destinations, especially during the holiday season.
To accommodate peak demand, Delta is launching seasonal daily nonstop service from Atlanta to Accra, complementing its daily year-round service from New York-JFK.
Following the debut of the Airbus A330-900neo on the JFK-ACC route last October, the same aircraft type will now also operate on the Atlanta route, offering an elevated onboard experience featuring Delta One Suites and next-generation comfort across all cabins.
“Africa is home to some of the world’s most dynamic cities, rich traditions, and growing economies, and Delta is making it easier than ever to reach them,” said Matteo Curcio, Senior Vice President of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India at Delta. “These new routes open doors for travelers seeking business opportunities, cultural exploration, and meaningful connections.”
Continued Investments in Atlanta
Atlanta is Delta’s largest hub, operating nearly 1,000 daily flights and connecting travelers to 215 destinations worldwide. With the addition of Marrakech, Delta offers 67 international destinations from Atlanta, reinforcing its position as a global gateway with other recent additions including Naples and Brussels.
Additionally, Delta has invested more than $12 billion into modernizing its hub network, including major enhancements at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport:
A new 24,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club — the largest in the airport — opening this spring on Concourse D, featuring panoramic views and amenities for every type of traveler
Upgrades to Delta Sky Clubs on Concourses A and C designed to elevate the guest experience
The expansion of Concourse D, adding more gate space and improving passenger flow.
Delta Digital ID enabling eligible travelers to move through security and bag drop seamlessly without showing a physical ID or boarding pass.
These investments continue to elevate the travel experience for customers flying through Atlanta, whether they’re heading to Marrakech’s colorful souks, Accra’s lively streets or anywhere else in the world.

Delta Passengers Sue Airline For Refusing Refunds After Massive Computer Outage
Delta Airlines (DAL.N), opens new tab was sued by passengers who complained that the carrier refused to offer full refunds after delaying or canceling their flights in the wake of last month's massive computer outage.
The proposed class action was made public on Wednesday in Atlanta federal court, after the July 19 outage disrupted airlines, banks, hospitals and emergency lines.
Passengers accused Delta of breach of contract for failing to provide automatic refunds, and providing partial refunds only if they signed waivers against pursuing further legal claims.
They also said Delta should compensate them for the cost and inconvenience of rebooking with other airlines, hotels and food, and from being separated from their luggage.
One of the four plaintiffs, John Brennan of Florida, said he and his wife missed a $10,000 anniversary cruise after being stranded in Atlanta on a layover, but Delta offered just $219.45 in compensation.
The lawsuit said the airline's "unfair, unlawful, and unconscionable practices resulted in Delta unjustly enriching itself at the expense of its customers."
Delta declined to comment on the lawsuit, but has said passengers whose travel was disrupted can request and receive refunds, and seek compensation for incidental costs, opens new tab.
Delta's passengers remained stranded, waiting in lines for days trying to get to their destinations," Joseph Sauder, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said in an email. "When our clients sought refunds, Delta again failed to deliver."
The outage stemmed from a flawed software update from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike (CRWD.O), opens new tab that crashed more than 8 million computers worldwide and affected many Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab customers.
Disruptions subsided the next day for many U.S. carriers but persisted at Delta, leading to more than 6,000 cancellations.
CrowdStrike, Microsoft and Delta have since argued publicly over who is to blame and should pay the bills.
Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian estimated on July 31 that the outage cost his Atlanta-based carrier about $500 million.
Passengers filed a separate class action against CrowdStrike on Monday, also seeking damages.
The Austin, Texas-based company has said it was neither grossly negligent nor at fault for Delta's problems.
The case is Bajra et al v Delta Air Lines, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Georgia, No. 24-03477.
