Travelore News: Lufthansa’s Allegris Business Class Seats In The Boeing 787-9 Are Now Available For Booking On Flights Departing From March 29

As the partial certification of the new Allegris Business Class in the Dreamliner has made further significant progress in recent days, the seats – with the exception of three seats in the second row – are now expected to be approved even earlier. For travel from March 29 – and thus in time for the start of the summer flight schedule – bookings are now possible for 25 of a total of 28 seats.

On February 16, the Lufthansa Group announced that the seats would be available for booking from April 15. Now, Business Class on the Boeing 787-9 can be booked, with virtually no restrictions, for flights from the end of March. At least ten Dreamliners are expected to be in service from Frankfurt at this time. With 25 Allegris seats available for booking starting today, over 200 additional business class seats in the state-of-the-art and successful Allegris class will be available for purchase every day.

From Frankfurt, Allegris will fly to Austin, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Cape Town, Shanghai, Hyderabad, and Hong Kong at the start of the summer flight schedule. From June, the destinations will be New York JFK and Los Angeles, followed by Delhi in July. The Dreamliner will also fly to Toronto, Montréal, Lagos, and Malabo, initially with some flights featuring Allegris and others without.

The Boeing 787-9 has been flying with Allegris from Frankfurt since October 9, 2025. Nine brand-new aircraft have already arrived in Frankfurt, and 20 more Dreamliners have been ordered. Lufthansa Airlines plans to have a total of 29 Boeing 787-9s by the end of 2027.

Lufthansa Group Airlines To Resume Flights To Tel Aviv

From January 8, 2024, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group plan to resume their flights to Tel Aviv. In a first phase, Lufthansa Airlines will initially offer four weekly flights from Frankfurt and three weekly flights from Munich. Austrian Airlines is planning eight weekly connections and SWISS five weekly flights. In a first step, the Lufthansa Group airlines will thus offer a total of 20 weekly connections to and from Tel Aviv. This corresponds to around 30 percent of the regular flight schedule. Aircraft from the Airbus A320 family will be used.

This flight schedule offers good transfer connections from Israel to North America and back via the hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich.

The flight schedule will be published on Monday, December 18. Flights can be booked from this date.

Safety is always a top priority for the airlines in the Lufthansa Group. The Lufthansa Group continues to monitor the security situation in Israel closely and is in close contact with the local and international authorities. Possible flight schedule adjustments must be expected due to changing conditions.

Lufthansa Group Airlines suspended its scheduled flights to and from Tel Aviv on October 9, 2023.

The flights to Beirut (Lebanon), which have also been suspended, were resumed today, December 15, by Lufthansa, SWISS and Eurowings.

German Government Sells Its Last Shares In Lufthansa

The German government has sold its last shares in the country’s biggest airline, Lufthansa, which it stepped in to rescue at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

The government’s Finance Agency said late Tuesday that the remaining stake of some 9.9% has now been sold to international investors. The agency’s head, Jutta Doenges, said the total proceeds from selling the government’s holdings came to 1.07 billion euros (dollars) — a significant gain over the 306 million euros for which the shares were acquired.

Doenges said that “the stabilization of Deutsche Lufthansa AG has been concluded successfully” and “the company is once again in private hands.”

Lufthansa, which also owns carriers including Austrian Airlines and Swiss, received a 9 billion-euro government rescue package in mid-2020. The German government took a 20% stake in the company.

In November, Lufthansa said it had paid back all the aid and canceled funds that it hadn’t tapped. It said it drew down about 3.8 billion euros of aid in total, including the 306 million euros that covered the stake taken by the government’s economic stabilization fund.

Lufthansa To Hire Nearly 20,000 New Employees By End Of 2023

Lufthansa is planning to hire nearly 20,000 new employees by the end of 2023 as the aviation industry recovers from the pandemic, according to Chief Executive Carsten Spohr.

During the pandemic, which paralysed air traffic worldwide, the flagship carrier shrank to around 100,000 employees from just under 140,000, causing operational problems this summer in some locations where too many staff had been cut.

A Lufthansa spokesperson added that 12,000 of the positions would be completely new while roughly 8,000 would be to replace employees who were leaving the company.

Spohr told a news briefing on Monday night that July and August had been fantastic for the airline and "we have no plans to leave the profitability we achieved in the second quarter."

However, the airline won't be back at pre-crisis capacity levels next year, he said, with an eye on a looming recession that will likely hit Germany harder than other countries.

Travelore News: German Strike Forces Lufthansa To Cancel Hundreds Of Flights

Lufthansa says it will have to cancel almost all flights at its main Frankfurt and Munich hubs on Wednesday because of a strike by its German ground staff, affecting tens of thousands of passengers in the latest travel turmoil to hit Europe.

The airline said Tuesday that the strike will force the cancellation of 678 flights at Frankfurt, 32 of them on Tuesday and the rest on Wednesday. It also is canceling 345 flights at Munich, including 15 on Tuesday.

Lufthansa said that 92,000 passengers will be affected by the Frankfurt cancellations and 42,000 by the Munich disruption. It said those affected will be contacted Tuesday and rebooked on alternative flights where possible but warned that “the capacities available for this are very limited.”

The company said the strike may still lead to “individual flight cancellations or delays” on Thursday and Friday.

The ver.di service workers’ union announced the one-day strike on Monday as it seeks to raise pressure on Lufthansa in negotiations on pay for about 20,000 employees of logistical, technical and cargo subsidiaries of the airline.

The walkout comes at a time when airports in Germany and across Europe already are seeing disruption and long lines for security checks because of staff shortages and soaring travel demand.

As inflation soars, strikes for higher pay by airport crews in France and Scandinavian Airlines pilots in Sweden, Norway and Denmark have deepened the chaos for travelers who have faced last-minute cancellations, lengthy delays, lost luggage or long waits for bags in airports across Europe.

Travel is booming this summer after two years of COVID-19 restrictions, swamping airlines and airports that don’t have enough workers after pandemic-era layoffs. Airports like London’s Heathrow and Amsterdam’s Schiphol have limited daily flights or passenger numbers.

The Lufthansa strike is set to start early Wednesday and end early Thursday. Such “warning strikes” are a common tactic in German labor negotiations and typically last from several hours to a day or two.

Ver.di is calling for a 9.5% pay increase this year and says an offer by Lufthansa earlier this month, which would involve a deal for an 18-month period, falls far short of its demands.

Lufthansa’s chief personnel officer, Michael Niggemann, argued that “this so-called warning strike in the middle of the peak summer travel season is simply no longer proportionate.”

Lufthansa Introduces “A La Carte Dining” Meals In Economy And Premium Economy Class

• In the future, seven selected menus can be ordered on long-haul flights for an extra charge

From summer 2018, Lufthansa Economy and Premium Economy Class passengers will be able to order one of seven selected “A la carte dining” meals on long-haul flights, for an extra charge.

The menu, which offers different variations to choose from depending on your taste and preference, includes meals such as:  grilled steak, Bento Box with a selection of classic Japanese sushi specialities, hearty Bavarian snacks, an Asian healthy menu with quinoa, or Mediterranean pasta with choice of shrimp or exotic Thai curry. All items are served to the passenger on stylish porcelain.

The multi-course menus are offered on almost all Lufthansa intercontinental flights from Frankfurt and Munich and are served on order instead of the regular first meal. They cost between 19 and 33 euros and are expected to be available beginning May 2018. The “A la carte dining” meals can be booked on lufthansa.com up to 24 hours before departure.

The “A la carte dining” meals do not replace the existing food and drink offerings in Economy and Premium Economy Class, but complement them at the passengers' individual request. Availability per flight is limited.

Lufthansa Plans Regular Flight Operations For Thursday December 1st

Lufthansa will operate almost all its scheduled flights tomorrow, Thursday, December 1. Only a handful of services (40) need to be cancelled in the wake of the strike action of the preceding days. Lufthansa regrets these further ramifications of the strike and apologizes for the inconvenience to the customers affected.

Lufthansa asks all its customers intending to fly tomorrow (Thursday) to check the latest status of their flight on LH.com before leaving for the airport. Travelers who have provided contact details in their customer profile will be actively informed via email or SMS text message of any cancellation affecting them.

A total of 890 Lufthansa flights affecting some 98,000 travelers have been cancelled today as a result of the latest strike action by the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) pilots’ union. All in all, the six days of strike action since last Wednesday have caused the cancellation of 4,461 flights affecting over 525,000 Lufthansa customers.

Austrian Airlines Announces Flight Service From Los Angeles To Vienna

• Austrian Airlines flies from the west coast for the first time
• Up to six direct flights per week on a Boeing 777 from Los Angeles to Vienna starting April 10, 2017
• As of summer 2017: up to 44 weekly flights from North America with Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines will add a new long-haul destination in North America to its flight schedule in the summer of 2017. Starting on April 10, 2017, a Boeing 777 will take off to Vienna from Los Angeles, up to six times a week. 

“After Chicago, Newark and Miami, Los Angeles is now the fourth new flight destination and the so far biggest leap into the USA. We will fly to the West Coast with our existing fleet and are already very excited about this new venture,” said Austrian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Andreas Otto. Initially, the Los Angeles-Vienna route will be served seasonally in the summer 2017 flight schedule. 

Angelenos will particularly enjoy the direct access to Vienna on the country’s home air carrier. One of the great European capitals, Vienna was the stomping ground for the Habsburg rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for centuries. The empire is long gone, but reminders have been preserved by the Viennese.
