First online US travel agency started offering direct flights between the United States and Cuba today. Authorized travelers can fly directly from New York City (JFK) and Tampa to Havana, and Miami to six Cuban destinations: Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Santa Clara, Camaguey, Cienfuegos and Holguin.
Travelers departing Miami will arrive in Havana in 1 hour.
In February, CheapAir became the first online travel agency to offer flights between Cuba and the U.S. However, travelers had to connect through a foreign country – and Havana was the only available destination. Starting today, in partnership with Cuba Travel Services, a premier charter company licensed to fly from the United States to Cuba, CheapAir.com is first to search and book direct licensed charter flights to Havana and other cities in Cuba.
Flights between Miami and Cuba operate daily. JFK to Havana flights depart and arrive on Tuesdays, and flights between Tampa and Havana operate on Sundays and Thursdays. For many U.S. travelers, direct flights will reduce the cost and travel time between their home and Cuba.
"For the first time in history, Americans can book direct flights to Cuba online," said Jeff Klee, CEO of CheapAir. "Our goal is to make booking flights and traveling to Cuba easier for authorized travelers, including those visiting family on the island. We're excited to partner with Cuba Travel Services in this effort."
"Cuba Travel Services is proud to partner with CheapAir.com in efforts to provide an efficient low cost travel solution to OFAC authorized travelers visiting Cuba," said Michael Zuccato, General Manager of Cuba Travel Services. "We have successfully designed and implemented an innovative solution for travelers seeking the convenience of making online reservations when traveling to Cuba."
