MSC And Royal Caribbean Rolling Out New Internet Options

MSC and Royal Caribbean Rolling Out New Internet Options

As demand for Internet at sea increases, MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean International are beginning to offer new tiered plans that better pair capability with affordability.
Over the next several months, MSC Cruises is rolling out dynamic high-bandwidth Internet connections and new pricing packages fleet-wide, and they are already available on MSC Divina and MSC Preziosa. The line cites resources of “several hundred Mbit/s (megabits per second) available in the Marlink Sealink cloud” across three plans.

READ MORE: Attention, Cruise Lines: Here's How to Make Internet Access Better

The Social Package is ideal for accessing networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest on one device for $4.50 per day or $16.50 per seven-night cruise. The Surfer Package is designed for moderate use of social networks and basic browsing and email access on up to two devices for $11 per day or $33 per seven-night cruise. The Streamer Package opens up full speeds for all browsing and even streaming on up to four devices for $22 per day or $66 per seven-night cruise.
“We are constantly seeking new ways to innovate and enhance guest experience aboard what is already the most modern fleet at sea,” said Gianni Onorato, MSC Cruises CEO. “We know that staying connected while on vacation is increasingly more important to our guests, hence we are rolling out state-of-the-art technology to allow them to stay connected, whether they are looking to share experiences and memorable moments, stay in touch with friends and family, stay on top of work emails or simply catch up with daily news.”

As for Royal Caribbean International, the Royal Caribbean Blog is reporting that the line has expanded its high-speed Voom service from one plan to several tiers as well, offering two bandwidths priced according to device count. The Voom Surf Voyage Package is good for browsing and email and social media access. It starts at $9.99 per day for one device. The Voom Surf + Stream Voyage Package adds in enough speed to facilitate all the above and streaming services. The upgraded plan starts at $12.99 per day for a single device.
Currently, Royal Caribbean’s website indicates Voom is available only on Oasis- and Quantum-class ships in the Caribbean, Mediterranean or Asia, but the Royal Caribbean Blog also said that the high-bandwidth service is expected to expand fleet-wide by this month.
Of course, in practice, speeds at sea are variable and often throttle down when more guests are logged on simultaneously. As to which offers the best value often depends on the user experience, which can vary accordingly. Where the packages on either line succeed most is in their unlimited nature. As speeds fluctuate, the time in which it takes to perform any given action online also changes. So, at least that variation does not count against daily or cruise time allotments like it would on lines that offer packages by the minute.

Travelore Cruise News: Royal Caribbean Simplifies Cancellation Policy

Royal Caribbean Simplifies Cancellation Policy
PHOTO: Oasis of the Seas. (Photo courtesy of Royal Caribbean International)

In an effort to simplify the cancellation process, Royal Caribbean International will now require passengers who book voyages with the cruise line to cancel the trip farther out then previously mandated.
The new cancellation policy applies to all bookings made on or after March 7.
According to Dori Saltzman of CruiseCritic.com, Royal Caribbean has simplified the cancellation policy’s penalty fee schedule by breaking it into two categories—sailings of one-to-four nights and any cruise five nights or longer—instead of the existing five categories.
The first tier of the new cancellation policy is for voyages of one-to-four nights, including holiday savings trips. Customers who cancel their trip at least 75 days in advance will receive no penalty, but travelers who cancel between 74 and 57 days out will lose their deposit.
For those canceling their trip of one-to-four nights closer to the departure date, the penalty fees get even steeper, as customers who cancel between 56 to 29 days out pay a fee of 50 percent of the total price, those who cancel between 28 to 15 days out pay a fee of 75 percent and travelers who cancel two weeks or less before a voyage will receive no refund.
The second tier includes cruises of five nights or longer, holiday savings trips and cruise tours. No fee will be applied for trips canceled at least 90 days from sailing date, but customers who cancel between 89 to 57 days out will lose their deposit.
The passengers who cancel their second-tier trips between 56 to 29 days before the voyage will be penalized a fee of 50 percent of the total piece and those who cancel between 28 to 15 days out will be penalized a fee of 75 percent. As with the first tier, customers who give 14 days of notice or less will receive no refund.
Under the old cancellation policy, the penalty fee schedule was broken into five categories, including trips of one-to-five nights, six nights or longer, one-to-five nights with holiday savings, six nights or longer with holiday savings and cruise tours.

Major Snowstorm Delays cruise Ship's Return To Baltimore #blizzard2016

The Maryland Department of Transportation said Friday that a blizzard means the port won´t be ready for the Royal Caribbean International´s Grandeur of the Seas until Monday.
The Maryland Department of Transportation said Friday that a blizzard means the port won't be ready for the Royal Caribbean International's Grandeur of the Seas until Monday.

BALTIMORE (AP) - For the passengers on a cruise ship heading back to snowy Baltimore from the Bahamas, one more day at sea doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

The Maryland Department of Transportation said Friday that a blizzard means the port won't be ready for the Royal Caribbean International's Grandeur of the Seas until Monday. The ship was to return Sunday from an eight-day trip to the Bahamas, said Cynthia Martinez, a Royal Caribbean spokeswoman. But plans changed after forecasters said the storm could dump more than 2 feet of snow.
Meg Ryan of Hamilton, New Jersey, one of the cruise ship's passengers, said she learned about 1 p.m. Friday of the postponement from the cruise line's website.

"I was not totally surprised and, frankly, happy to be delayed," Ryan wrote in an email to The Associated Press. "First, it is an extra day of vacation, but more importantly, safety comes first and travel Sunday would be difficult, if not impossible."
Ryan, 51, is an assistant manager of a luggage store in New Jersey. She is also a Master Cruise Counsellor, a certification from the trade organization Cruise Lines International Association. She works with a company called eCruisenet, which provides consulting services to passengers planning trips. Ryan said she was traveling with a group of eCruisenet clients.
Ryan said she expected the cruise line will have activities to entertain passengers, and the shops and casino will be open, "ready to separate guests from their money."

On the downside, Ryan said passengers were trying to rebook transportation from Baltimore to their homes. Also, the Grandeur of the Seas was to begin another cruise Sunday to the western Caribbean, so a fresh set of passengers will grapple with a delay. Ryan said the cruise line was helping passengers returning to Baltimore with free calls and Internet access; she took a photo of a line of people waiting to make calls.

Still, an on-board indoor solarium and pool presented an idyllic contrast to what awaited Ryan at home.
"I will return to Hamilton (near Trenton), N.J., to 2 feet of snow, and probably an irate cat, who I am sure will not be happy that I am delayed," she wrote.

Travelore News: World's Largest Cruise Terminal Inaugurated In Dubai

World's largest cruise terminal inaugurated in Dubai
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of DP World

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - DP World’s third cruise terminal in Dubai has been inaugurated by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal is set to be the world’s largest covered cruise facility capable of welcoming 14,000 cruise passengers a day.
DP World welcomed 4,000 passengers at the new terminal on Thursday from the Costa Cruise and Aida Cruise ships, part of Arabian Gulf tours.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal covers 28,000 square metres and is the latest addition to The Dubai Cruise Terminal facility at Mina Rashid.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of DP World, said: "It is a great honour to name our luxury cruise facility after Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
"Dubai’s vision is to attract 20 million tourists a year by 2020, with the Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing (DTCM) anticipating cruise tourist numbers reaching the one-million mark by that time."
Bin Sulayem added: "The new building will increase the handling capacity of the three cruise terminals in Dubai from two million tourists a year to seven million.
"The terminal is the largest and most modern cruise facility in the Middle East and the wider region, enabling award winning Mina Rashid to now serve up to seven cruise vessels at one time and more than 25,000 passengers in its three cruise terminals. This expansion came in response to requests from cruise liners and will enable them to increase the number of their trips to Dubai."
The Hamdan bin Mohammed Cruise Terminal offers visitors customs and handling facilities with streamlined immigration and entry procedures coordinated by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.
Features include duty-free outlets, shops, currency exchange, ATM machines and a VIP business centre. It also provides office facilities to related organisations including the police, customs, immigration, shipping agents and airlines.
Earlier this week, Dubai Cruise Tourism, part of Dubai Tourism, said it has completed its first major roadshow in China as part of its plans to grow as a cruise tourism destination.
Roadshows were held in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou where Dubai officials met top travel trade professionals alongside representatives from cruise industry partners MSC, Costa Crociere and Royal Caribbean International (RCI).
Dubai Tourism, with four overseas offices in China, has worked closely with China's travel trade to attract tourists to Dubai, but this is the first time that the Dubai Cruise Tourism team has undertaken a dedicated roadshow to promote Dubai's cruise offerings.
The number of Chinese cruise passengers who travel overseas has increased from 160,000 to 660,000 in the last six years, representing a significant growth in demand for cruise travel, and Dubai aims to be part of this growth.

5 Reasons Bermuda Makes a Memorable Cruise & Vacation Experience

If you are looking for the perfect warm weather vacation, consider taking  a Bermuda cruise, and watch for the best deals exclusively online at Crown Cruise Vacations.

Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean, located off the east coast of the United States, and offers fantastic cruise and land vacation opportunities for families, couples, singles and groups.

Here are five great reasons to consider a Bermuda cruise.

1. Hamilton, Bermuda’s capital, is a picturesque harbor city with great shops, museums, galleries and gardens. The locals going about their daily business along with a global sophistication gives Hamilton a unique charm and colorful, vibrant character. The historic town consists of sea breezes and harbor views and its nearby parishes offer so much more – intoxicating gardens, historic churches and an interactive aquarium and zoo.

2. Bermuda offers an array of exquisite beaches of pink sand and turquoise water. The sand contains pink flecks that are the remains of a tiny organism known as red foam. This red foam, combined with tiny particles of broken shells and bits of coral, create the pink hue of Bermuda's beautiful beaches.

3. World-class golf: Bermuda boasts eight golf courses in just 22 square miles. From an enticing par-3 executive course to a championship-level course given the seal of approval by the PGA of America, Bermuda is a golfer's paradise. While courses vary in level of difficulty and length, every one of them is breathtakingly beautiful. Additionally, families will enjoy a mini golf course, while those looking to brush up on their skills can visit a sprawling golf academy. Tennis, squash and croquet are fun options as well.

4. Diving and water sports abound. Pick from boat rentals & charters, fishing, jet ski & flyboarding, sailing & parasailing, scuba, sightseeing & glass bottom boats, snorkel, yachts.  Swim with the dolphins, or explore forts & caves.

5. With warm and friendly people and places, Bermuda is a favorite destination for generations of travelers.  In fact, many report that Bermudans are the most welcoming and affable people they’ve ever had the pleasure to meet.

Royal Caribbean And Celebrity Cruises Simplify Planning With New Digital Platform

Redesigned Cruise Planner Empowers Guests to Design a Customized
Cruise Vacation Before Even Stepping Foot Onboard

Recognizing that vacation time is precious and every moment counts, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises have developed an all-new planning tool that allows guests to seamlessly and intuitively plan all aspects of their cruise vacation quicker and easier than ever before. The cruise lines are once again leading the industry with the totally revamped Cruise Planner, a tool that makes it possible for all reservations, activities and entertainment to be booked well in advance of departure, ensuring no vacation time needs to be spent on planning. In addition, Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas’ Dynamic Dining reservations also are open and available for guests to book.

With the new Cruise Planner, planning and personalization is simplified with a game-changing approach that eliminates guess work with a modern, user-friendly format enabled for desktops and tablets. Complete with an extensive search and filtering feature that makes it possible for guests to easily navigate and research products and opportunities available on their specific booked itinerary, Cruise Planner is the ultimate resource for vacation planning.  Whether a seasoned cruiser or a traveler setting sail for the first time, guests will appreciate Cruise Planner’s quick and easy menus that dive deep into the vacation options available, enabling access to restaurants and beverage packages with just one click, and the ability to browse hundreds of shore excursions by day, port, activity type, number of guests, and more. Cruise Planner even provides custom activity recommendations and featured product displays to spark ideas and inspire more ways to enjoy the cruise vacation.

“Planning a vacation should not be a complicated process” said Adam Goldstein, President and COO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. “With the new Cruise Planner we are transforming the way our guests plan their experience. By taking cues from the technologies and resources that our guests use every day we have created a tool that is simple and intuitive to use and will transform our guests experience from the moment they begin planning their vacation. Once they step onboard, we want our guests to have nothing to do but simply enjoy themselves, and Cruise Planner makes that possible.”

Guests can use the platform to explore each and every activity that Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises offer both on and off the ship, and make changes to activities and reservations up until four days prior to their sail date. A streamlined order history, shopping cart with a categorized summary, and printable calendar that is color-coded for each member of the traveling party, keeps track of everything so that guests can easily and visually plan their cruise.

Guests booked on Royal Caribbean International can now see the all new Cruise Planner by visiting http://bit.ly/1p69QM4. Guests on Celebrity Cruises can see the platform on June 10.
