American Express has expanded its travel footprint for points enthusiasts by adding The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) as its newest Membership Rewards transfer partner. For travelers who prefer iconic, independent luxury boutique hotels over massive corporate chains, this partnership offers an exciting opportunity to use points for aspirational properties worldwide.
Here is what you need to know about unlocking rewarding stays across the LHW global collection.
The Transfer Details
Amex Membership Rewards points now transfer directly to LHW’s loyalty program, Leaders Club, at a 4:1 ratio. Every 1,000 Amex points yields 250 Leaders Club points. Because Leaders Club points hold substantial value, redemptions can consistently yield around 2 cents per Amex point at participating luxury properties, making it a competitive option for booking high-end stays.
An Incredible Portfolio of Independent Luxury
Unlike standard mega-chains, The Leading Hotels of the World represents over 400 prestigious independent properties that are historically difficult to book with transferable credit card points. Members can redeem points for award nights at iconic properties including Le Sirenuse on Italy's Amalfi Coast, San Ysidro Ranch in California, Adare Manor in Ireland, and Capella Bangkok.
Stacking Perks with The Platinum Card
Holders of The Platinum Card from American Express can pair this transfer feature with complimentary Leaders Club Sterling status (enrollment required). Combining transferred points with Sterling status unlocks valuable on-property perks during award stays, such as:
- Complimentary daily continental breakfast for two
- Up to five pre-arrival room upgrades annually (subject to availability)
- Flexible early check-in and late checkout, based on availability
- A 5% Leaders Club points bonus on qualifying stays
Key Redemption Tips
Transfers are one-way and cannot be reversed. Additionally, Leaders Club utilizes a revenue-based award pricing model where the required points fluctuate alongside dynamic room rates. Always verify reward night availability and lock in exact point requirements on the Leaders Club website before initiating a transfer.
