Big news is making waves in the world of cruising! The Walt Disney Company and Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) have officially revealed the name of the first-ever Disney cruise ship that will be based in Japan. Scheduled to debut in spring 2029, this highly anticipated vessel promises to bring the renowned magic of a Disney vacation at sea to a whole new market.
A Historic Partnership and Home Port
The new ship marks a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between Disney and OLC, the company that currently owns and operates the highly successful Tokyo Disney Resort under a licensing agreement. Set to depart from the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, the ship will serve as the inaugural vessel for Disney Cruise Line Japan. Oriental Land's CEO, Yumiko Takano, expressed that their goal is to establish a new culture of family entertainment cruises in Japan, aiming to make the cruise business a key revenue pillar alongside their theme parks.
Theme and Signature Stern Character
True to its name, the Disney Imagination will be powered by a theme of creativity and optimism, celebrating the imagination that has always been the heart of Disney storytelling. Following a beloved Disney Cruise Line tradition, the ship will feature a signature character adorning its stern. For the Disney Imagination, that honor goes to Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Ariel, along with her friend Sebastian and other underwater companions, will be depicted using a dinglehopper to draw the ship's name—a playful and fitting tribute to her adventurous spirit and curiosity.
Wish-Class Luxury and Experiences
The Disney Imagination will be the fifth Wish-class ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. As part of this innovative class of ships, guests can expect the dazzling entertainment, exceptional dining experiences, and renowned guest service that define a Disney cruise vacation. While specific details about onboard attractions, dining venues, and future itineraries are being kept under wraps for now, Disney has promised that more information will be announced at a later date.
Whether you are a lifelong Disney fan or a cruising enthusiast looking for your next adventure in Asia, the arrival of the Disney Imagination in 2029 is definitely an event worth marking on your calendar!
